Brosnan Responds to Rumors of a 007 Comeback Under Denis Villeneuve
Pierce Brosnan, the actor who once made James Bond cool again in the 90s, isn’t ruling out a return to the role that made him famous.
Now 72, Brosnan said in a recent interview that he’d be open to playing 007 again, if director Denis Villeneuve ever asked him.
Brosnan played the legendary spy in four films, starting with GoldenEye in 1995 and ending with Die Another Day in 2002. More than two decades later, he still has a soft spot for the character.
When asked if he’d come back, he didn’t hesitate. “If Villeneuve had something up his sleeve I would look at it in a heartbeat,” he said. “Why not? It’s great entertainment. It could be lots of laughs. Bald caps, prosthetics… who knows?”
The actor also mentioned that he and his wife, Keely Shaye Brosnan, have been following the ongoing speculation about who will be the next James Bond. “My wife Keely and I have been listening to the drumbeat of expectation of who’s going to be the next James Bond,” he said. “There are many great candidates out there, and I’m sure they’re going to make it a spectacle of delight.”
Rumors about the next Bond movie, currently known as Bond 26, have been making headlines for months.
The film will serve as a complete reboot of the series, marking the first time Amazon is producing a Bond film after taking over from EON Productions earlier this year. The project will be produced by Heyman Films and Pascal Pictures, with David Heyman and Amy Pascal overseeing the production.
In June, it was confirmed that Dune and Sicario director Denis Villeneuve would lead the film, with Tanya Lapointe as executive producer. A month later, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight was announced as the screenwriter.
With a new team, a new tone, and plenty of mystery surrounding who will take on the role of 007 next, Brosnan’s comments have sparked fresh excitement among fans. Whether or not Villeneuve gives him a call, it’s clear that the former Bond still has a love for the franchise, and wouldn’t mind stepping back into the tux, even for one last mission.
