Camila Mendes Steals the Spotlight at the ‘Idiotka’ New York Premiere
Camila Mendes has been a staple in the fashion world for years, but her recent appearance in New York City suggests she is entering a sophisticated new era. At the preview screening for her latest film, Idiotka, held on February 5 The actress turned heads.
The look was a masterclass in “90s minimalism meets high-fashion drama.” Stepping out at the Crown Hill Theater, Mendes paid homage to iconic fashion history by wearing a Chanel look inspired by the brand’s Spring/Summer 1992 collection, originally designed by the legendary Karl Lagerfeld.
The ensemble featured a crisp, tucked-in white tank top featuring the classic black Chanel logo, proving that even the most basic wardrobe staples can be elevated to luxury status.
She paired the top with a voluminous, floor-length black tulle skirt that featured a structured corseted waist, creating a sharp and flattering silhouette. To add a touch of vintage flair, she accessorized with a gold hanging chain belt featuring a jewel accent, which dangled elegantly over the tulle. The look was finished with simple pearl earrings and a classic brown-toned makeup look that highlighted her natural features.

Her hair was perhaps the most talked-about part of the evening, as she debuted a chic, side-swept short hairstyle that channeled old Hollywood glamour with a modern twist. This classic aesthetic was a perfect match for the evening’s event, which brought together a trendy New York crowd to celebrate the film’s upcoming wide release.
Mendes was joined by director Nastasya Popov and her co-star Anna Baryshnikov, with the trio posing for photos that quickly went viral across fashion-focused social media circles. The film they were celebrating, Idiotka, is a sharp comedy that satirizes the often-absurd world of reality television and the high-fashion industry.
It follows a struggling, disgraced fashion designer named Margarita, played by Baryshnikov, who enters a reality competition show called Slay, Serve, Survive to save her grandmother’s apartment. Mendes plays Nicol, a “slick” and calculating producer who tries to manipulate the designer into turning her family’s genuine struggles into a public spectacle for higher ratings.
As of early February, Camila Mendes has officially moved past her Riverdale days and established herself as a versatile powerhouse in the industry. Beyond her starring role in Idiotka, which is scheduled for a wide theatrical release on February 27, she has several massive projects on the horizon.
Just this week, it was reported that production has officially begun in London on Guy Ritchie’s next film, Viva La Madness, where Mendes will star alongside Jason Statham, Jason Isaacs, and Vinnie Jones. Fans are also eagerly awaiting her turn as Teela in the live-action Masters of the Universe film, which is slated for a June 5 release.
