Cardi B is one of the biggest names in music today, but she is still very open about where she came from. During a recent livestream with fans, the rapper looked back on her time as a stripper and shared a story that surprised a lot of people. She talked openly about how much money she made in just one night before fame changed her life.

While chatting casually on the livestream, Cardi brought up a trip she once took to Texas for work. She explained that dancing in Dallas was a whole different level compared to other cities. “I remember when I was stripping, Dallas was different,” she said during the stream. “They booked me out there and I made about $12,000 in one night. Dead serious. That was good money. Real good money.”

The comment quickly caught attention online, but Cardi made it clear the money wasn’t just about luxury. At the time, she was trying to survive. She started stripping when she was 19 years old after getting fired from a grocery store job in New York. She has said many times that dancing gave her a way out of poverty and helped her escape an abusive relationship.

Cardi has never softened that part of her story. She has been very direct about how important that job was to her life. “Stripping saved my life,” she has said in past interviews, a point she has stood by over the years. The money helped her gain freedom and control when she had very little of either.

She worked at several clubs in New York, including New York Dolls and Club Lust. Cardi once explained that dancers often had to pay fees just to work a shift, sometimes close to $100. That’s why the Dallas night stood out so much to her. Making $12,000 in one night felt unreal compared to her usual earnings.

Her time in strip clubs also shaped her confidence and personality. Around 2013, she began posting short videos online talking honestly about her life, money, and relationships. Those clips went viral on Vine and Instagram and helped her build a large following. That online fame later landed her a role on VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: New York.

While on the show, Cardi pushed her music career even when others doubted her. She also kept using strip clubs as a testing ground for her songs. She has said that if dancers reacted well to a track, she knew regular listeners would too. That strategy worked when “Bodak Yellow” started blowing up in clubs before it topped the charts.

Eventually, family pressure helped push her toward a different path. Cardi has shared that her mother was deeply disappointed when she learned her daughter was stripping. That reaction stuck with her and made her even more determined to succeed in music.

Today, Cardi B is a Grammy-winning artist with massive hits and global influence. Her album Invasion of Privacy made history, and songs like “WAP” turned her into a pop culture force. She has also appeared in films like Hustlers and the Fast & Furious franchise, expanding her career beyond music.

She recently released her second album and is preparing for a large arena tour. Even with all the success, Cardi still talks openly about her past and doesn’t try to hide it. Her story is part of her brand and part of why fans feel connected to her.
