Carmen Electra Is Ready to Slip Back Into the Red Suit as She Teases a ‘Baywatch’ Reboot Appearance and Another ‘Playboy’ Shoot
Few names are as inextricably linked to the image of sun-soaked California beach culture as Carmen Electra. The model and actress became a global icon during her time on ‘Baywatch’ in the late nineties, and decades later she has lost none of her cultural magnetism. With a major television revival of the legendary lifeguard drama now firmly in motion, her name is once again on everyone’s lips, and she seems more than happy to let the speculation run.
‘Baywatch’ holds a special place in television history. The original series ran for eleven seasons from 1989 to 2001 and, at its peak in the mid-nineties, was recognized by Guinness World Records as the most-watched television series in the world. Its ensemble cast helped launch the careers of stars including Pamela Anderson, Jason Momoa, and Carmen Electra herself, who became one of the show’s most recognizable faces.
TMZ caught up with Electra as she was leaving The Abbey’s 35th anniversary party, and she dropped two pieces of news her fans are going to love. She confirmed she is set to pose for ‘Playboy’ again, and even arrived at the event dressed as a Playboy Bunny. She also teased a possible appearance in the upcoming ‘Baywatch’ reboot.
Electra told TMZ that returning to the role could be fun, adding that she could still handle the slow-motion runs and still looks great in the iconic red suit. She is the first actor from the original ensemble to publicly tease a return in the reboot. She was candid about one condition, however, noting that while she loves being around the ocean, actually filming in the water is a very different matter and a process she described as quite complicated. She floated the idea of returning in a senior capacity instead, suggesting she could potentially play a captain.
The Fox reboot has been building an impressive ensemble of its own. Stephen Amell leads the series as Hobie Buchannon, the son of the legendary Mitch Buchannon, and the cast also includes Shay Mitchell, Hassie Harrison, Noah Beck, Brooks Nader, and gymnast and social media personality Livvy Dunne. Matt Nix, known for creating ‘Burn Notice’, serves as showrunner and executive producer, with McG directing the series premiere episode. The show is a co-production between Fox Entertainment and Fremantle, which holds the rights to the original series.
Electra’s interest in returning is nothing new. Back in 2022, she told People she would absolutely participate if there was ever a revival, recalling that she had to pinch herself when she first joined the original show given it was the number one series in the world at the time. The difference now is that the reboot is real, it is cast, and it is heading to screens in the coming season, which makes her continued openness feel a lot more like a genuine conversation than a hypothetical one.
Whether Lani McKenzie ultimately makes it back to the shores of Venice Beach or not, the buzz alone is proof that the ‘Baywatch’ legacy still carries serious weight. Are you hoping Carmen Electra makes a proper return to the reboot, or would you rather the new series forge its own identity without leaning on the originals?
