Castlevania‘ series of video games became one of the best horror-action adventure franchises in the industry. Since the 1980s, fans could follow the story of the Belmont family, the vampire hunters fighting against the Dark Lord, the Count Dracula. ‘Castlevania’ is KONAMI’s one of the best and most notable video game franchises, and when it was adapted by Netflix (in 2017), the story of the Belmont family gained worldwide popularity.

After a really good four seasons, Netflix decided to develop a sequel to the original series, ‘Castlevania: Nocturne,’ which will hit the streaming platform on September 28, 2023. ‘Castlevania’ seasons in order by release date

As we previously mentioned, ‘Castlevania’ gained worldwide popularity with its 30-year-old franchise of video games. The games aren’t necessarily the strict source material for the Netflix show from 2017, and the writers confirmed that fact with the release of the first season.

The original ‘Castlevania’ series aired four seasons on Netflix, with one animated movie project being canceled in 2017. This next list is the series’ seasons in order by release date:

  2. ‘Castlevania’ Season Two (2018)
  3. ‘Castlevania’ Season Three (2020)
  4. ‘Castlevania’ Season Four (2021)
  5. ‘Castlevania: Nocturne’ Season One (2023)

This list is the standard TV series watch order by release date, but there are instances where the show’s timeline correlates with the original video games, which we will mention later.

Are all ‘Castlevania’ seasons connected? What’s the best order to watch them?

‘Castlevania’ seasons are connected, and it has a linear chronology. The three main characters, Trevor Belmont, Alucard, and Sypha Belnades, are the show’s focus, with the antagonist, Dracula, being on the opposing side.

‘Castlevania’ doesn’t jump from one timeline to another, so the series has the same chronological and release date order watch order. Interestingly enough, the show does have minor time jumps that are usually one year apart, mostly between the main heroes and Dracula’s lair.

All ‘Castlevania’ seasons in chronological order

1. ‘Castlevania’ Season One (2017)

Season one of ‘Castlevania’ starts in Wallachia in 1455, where a young woman named Lisa falls in love with a mysterious doctor, Vlad Dracula Tepes, who is actually a vampire with advanced scientific knowledge. The pair later fall in love, but their love ends up tragic – the local bishop discovers scientific equipment in Lisa’s home and accuses her of witchcraft.

Lisa is burned at the stake, and Dracula decides to avenge his beloved wife – by killing everyone on his way. Dracula gives the people one year to prepare for the upcoming onslaught he will bestow on them. Lisa and Dracula’s son, Adrian (Alucard), try to reason with his father, but Dracula refuses and sends an army of demons, Night Creatures, to kill everyone in Wallachia. The Belmont family is to blame by people for the destruction, but Trevor Belmont, Sypha, and Alucard decide to stop Dracula once and for all.

2. ‘Castlevania’ Season Two (2018)

Season two of the series follows the “dynamic” trio hunting Dracula and stopping his destruction all over the Wallachia. Despite agreeing to help stop his father, Alucard struggles with the decision to kill him.

Conversely, Trevor and Sypha discover their feelings for one another and try to help their colleague come to terms with killing his father. However, the battle doesn’t stop with the death of Dracula because other people want to use the vacant spot and put themselves on the “roof of the world.”

3. ‘Castlevania’ Season Three (2020)

The consequences of the previous season lie hard on the main protagonist, especially Alucard, who feels guilty for killing his father. One month has passed since Dracula died, and Alucard is trying his best to get on the terms of his father’s death. Alucard goes away to be alone but misses his friends, Trevor and Sypha, who continue to “clean” the lands of Dracula’s presence.

However, a new threat is on the horizon, with Carmilla, Hector, Isaac, and others trying to use the dire situation worldwide to their advantage. Meanwhile, Alucard returns to his father’s castle.

4. ‘Castlevania’ Season Four (2021)

Season four of ‘Castlevania,’ sees the exhausted Trevor and Sypha fighting against the Night Creatures and cultists, who still want to revive Dracula, six weeks after the Battle of Lindenfeld. After the major disappointment he experienced the previous season, Alucard stacks dead bodies in front of his father’s castle to scare future visitors.

However, a new threat causes the reunion of old friends, and the dynamic trio joins forces to slay the demonic creatures and their worshippers once and for all. Of course, the last season saw major developments that included sacrifices and deaths – and possible resurrections.

5. ‘Castlevania: Nocturne’ Season One (2023)

Finally, we have the upcoming sequel of the original series, ‘Castlevania: Nocturne,’ which will soon be released on Netflix platforms. From the trailer and the official synopsis, we learned that the show follows Richter Belmont, a Belmont clan descendant and the original series’s main protagonists, Trevor and Sypha. The series is set in the French Revolution, and Richter must join forces with an unlikely team to stop the apocalypse.

Will there be more seasons of Castlevania?

First of all, there will definitely be more ‘Castlevania content in the future. Besides the release of the sequel, ‘Castlevania: Nocturne,’ there was speculation of an OVA or a movie being developed.

There were plans to develop an animated project titled ‘Dracula’s Curse,’ but that was canceled because Netflix executives decided ‘Castlevania’ would be a TV series. Nevertheless, ‘Castlevania’ is a big franchise with a lot of content for adapting, and knowing that the Netflix “universe” gained a much-deserved success, there is no doubt that Castlevania’ will grace us with more of its content.
