Channing Tatum’s New Gambit Voice Gives ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Fans a First Listen
Channing Tatum’s Gambit was one of the biggest surprises of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’. After years of trying to get a standalone Gambit movie made at 20th Century Fox, Tatum finally played the Cajun mutant on screen in a role built around a running joke: his thick accent was deliberately hard to follow.
Tatum is returning as Gambit in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, and fans have been curious about how the character will sound this time. Speaking to Variety last year, Tatum said he wouldn’t go full Cajun for the new film, explaining that the studio had to figure out how audiences would understand him.
Fans now have their first proper taste of Gambit’s updated voice, thanks to Dunkin’. As DiscussingFilm noted, Tatum’s voice as Gambit has been revealed in a new commercial for the coffee chain’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ campaign.
The spot, called “MUNCHKIN Incursion,” pairs Gambit with H.E.R.B.I.E., the Fantastic Four’s robotic companion. In the ad, Gambit reaches for an Iced Captain’ccino while H.E.R.B.I.E. arrives with a plate of Doomsday and Avenging MUNCHKINS donut hole treats.
Gambit delivers the line “Doomsday is here, mon ami” as H.E.R.B.I.E. explains the film’s multiverse plot in robot-speak. The new delivery is still clearly Cajun, but it’s noticeably easier to understand. Several outlets contrasted it with the rapid-fire mumbling that defined the character in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’.

That fits what Tatum has said about the original performance. The heavy accent was intentional, with Ryan Reynolds encouraging him to dial it all the way up so no one could tell what he was saying.
Tatum has also pointed out that his father is from New Orleans and that the accent covers a broad range. The Dunkin’ spot suggests he has found a version that keeps the flavor without losing the audience.

The actor clearly enjoyed the commercial. In an exclusive interview with People, Tatum said he knew right away the idea would be hilarious, since it put Gambit somewhere far outside the X-Men world.
He also joked that “Munchkin Incursion” was one of the funniest pairings of words he’d heard. Tatum described H.E.R.B.I.E. as a bit of a clown and admitted that he flirted with the robot a little on set.
Marvel was just as enthusiastic. “The spot plays on these high stakes” with Gambit and H.E.R.B.I.E., said Holly Frank, Vice President of Global Partnerships at Marvel Studios, in Dunkin’s announcement.

The ad is part of a larger campaign. Dunkin’s themed menu launched on November 4 with drinks such as the Doom Cloud Latte, the Optic Blast Lemonade, and the Clobbered Cloud Latte inspired by The Thing.
The chain is also taking over restaurants in several cities. Themed locations open on November 17 in Los Angeles and Chicago, with Fantastic Four and X-Men designs, followed by New York City and Boston on November 18, with Avengers and Doctor Doom themes.
The new voice may also reflect the film’s tone. The Russo brothers reportedly want to keep the drama of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ intact rather than lean into the comedy of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’.

Tatum has also said he was injured while filming, which led to pain medication and intensive physical therapy. A trailer has already shown Gambit facing off against Shang-Chi. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens in theaters on December 18.
