Charlie Kirk’s 2024 Remarks About Nicki Minaj Resurface After TPUSA Appearance: “I Don’t Think That’s a Good Role Model”
Nicki Minaj appeared at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest on Sunday, sitting down with Erika Kirk, the widow of late political commentator Charlie Kirk, for an interview. During the event, Minaj praised President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance for their work in office, calling them “role models” for young people.
She also criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom, giving him the nickname “New-scum.” Minaj said, “Dear young men, you have amazing role models like our handsome, dashing president and you have amazing role models like the assassin JD Vance, our vice president… Both of them have a very uncanny ability to be someone that you relate to.” She added that the administration was full of people with “heart and soul” who made her proud.
However, a video from April 2024 has resurfaced showing Charlie Kirk expressing a very different view of Minaj. In the clip, Kirk criticized both Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, saying they were not suitable role models for young Black women.
He said, “Black culture is being held captive by influences, songs and role models. Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, I don’t think that’s a good role model for 18-year-old Black girls.” He also condemned songs he felt “glorify wet female gen*****.”
Kirk was shot and killed on September 10, at a campus debate event in Utah. Governor Spencer Cox described the shooting as a “political assassination.” It remains unclear whether Kirk’s opinion of Minaj changed before his death.
Supporters of Kirk also highlighted a 2021 tweet in which he criticized the Democratic Party’s treatment of Minaj. He wrote, “Democrats’ treatment of Nicki Minaj should be all the proof you need that they don’t care about Black people, especially those they can’t control. They just use them every 4 years for their votes. But people are waking up.”
Minaj has continued to speak out on political issues. In November 2025, she attended a United Nations event to raise awareness about the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria. Her appearance at AmericaFest and her political statements have once again sparked discussions about celebrity influence and the role of public figures as role models.
