Charlie Sheen’s Birthday Joke to Denise Richards Turns Into $1 Million Surprise

Charlie Sheen recently shared a story about an unexpected outcome from a birthday joke involving his ex-wife, Denise Richards.

During an appearance on Kevin Clancy’s KFC Radio podcast, the “Two and a Half Men” actor revealed that he once wrote Richards a check for $1 million as a prank.

“I wrote a check to Denise once for $1 million on her birthday, kind of as a joke, and she kept it not as a joke,” Sheen said. “And then, like, a month later, [she] f**** cashed it.”

Sheen admitted he couldn’t recall if they were still married at the time, but he understood why she cashed it. “Yeah, which makes it sting more? But you know, if I’m on the other side of that, I’m probably cashing that check,” he added.

He joked about wishing Richards had given him a heads-up before collecting the money. “‘Hey, you sound like you’re driving somewhere,’” he imagined telling her. “‘Yeah, to the bank, actually!’”

Reflecting on the incident, Sheen noted that it made him appreciate his own financial situation. “But I guess there’s gratitude that there was enough money in that account for that check not to bounce,” he said. “You’re doing pretty good if you can accidentally give people a million bucks.”

Sheen and Richards were married from 2002 to 2006 and share two daughters, Sami, 21, and Lola, 20. Richards recently posted on Instagram that she still has the check, joking about its validity. “Found this during my recent move. I never cashed it, @charliesheen. Is it still good?” The check, issued on December 11, 2011, came five years after their divorce.

Their split had been difficult, with Richards even obtaining a temporary restraining order against Sheen at the time. Despite that, the story has resurfaced as a humorous anecdote about a large accidental payout.
