Charlize Theron recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote her upcoming Netflix action movie The Old Guard 2. During the interview, she shared her admiration for one of her action heroes, Uma Thurman, and spoke about how Thurman’s role in Kill Bill inspired her.

Theron revealed that she had always wanted to work with Thurman, saying, “We knew each other kind of offhand, but I knew her from being a massive fan, just watching her work, and always wanted to do something with her. Because when I came into the action world, she was really, to me, like, the sensei. She was the OG.

Theron was referring to Thurman’s iconic role as The Bride in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Kill Bill Vol. 2, which were released in 2003 and 2004. These films turned Thurman into an action icon, inspiring many, including Theron.

During the interview, Kimmel asked Theron, “She should’ve won the Academy Award for Kill Bill, right?

Theron quickly replied, “A hundred percent,” explaining that she feels men often receive more credit for these types of action films. “What she did in that film was just so unbelievable,” Theron added.

Theron also confessed she was “scared” to face off against Thurman in The Old Guard 2, calling her a “badass.” She went on to say, “So since I’ve been in action movies I’ve been like, ‘Who do I want to work with and do an action sequence with?’ It’s always been Uma Thurman. Always.”
