The Intelligence Unit heads into the third episode of its new run, and ‘Chicago P.D.’ has an installment titled “Under the Surface” set for October 21. The season opened three months after last year’s finale, which left Voight deciding whether to arrest Shari after learning of her involvement in a murder. That unresolved question still hangs over the unit as the new episodes arrive week by week.

Viewers looking for the ‘Chicago P.D.’ release date, air time and streaming options will find the schedule is steady. The series airs on NBC every Wednesday at 10 p.m. It was created by Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead and is part of the One Chicago franchise.

‘Chicago P.D.’ Release Date for the Third Episode

The third episode, “Under the Surface,” premieres on October 21, 2026. It arrives one week after the second chapter, which put the spotlight on Atwater. Coverage of that episode described it as a major turning point for the character.

The fourth episode, “My Eye, My Call,” follows on October 28. The first four installments therefore run on consecutive Wednesdays, beginning with the October 7 opener.

The new season is set to include 21 episodes, matching the count of the previous season, which ran from October 1, 2025 to May 13, 2026. With that many episodes ordered, one outlet noted there is plenty of road left in the season.

Release Time Within the One Chicago Lineup

‘Chicago P.D.’ closes the One Chicago Wednesday lineup and airs at 10 p.m. That is the same time slot it has held on NBC. Viewers on the East Coast can tune in at 10 p.m. ET.

‘Chicago Med’ returns for its twelfth season at 8/7c, and ‘Chicago Fire’ returns for its fifteenth season at 9/8c. The three shows are set to air together throughout the season, which makes Wednesday a full night of franchise viewing.

In Canada, viewers can watch on Citytv, which has carried the season since the October 7 premiere. Fans should also know that the cost cutting measures introduced across the franchise before last season remain in effect, so some familiar faces may miss episodes from time to time.

Where to Watch ‘Chicago P.D.’ Live and on Peacock

The episode can be watched live on NBC through a TV package or a live TV streaming service. It can also be watched live online with a Peacock subscription in most areas.

Earlier installments reached Peacock the day after airing, with the premiere streaming on October 8 and the second episode on October 15. Viewers who miss a Wednesday broadcast have so far faced only a short wait.

All 13 earlier seasons are also available on Peacock, which gives newcomers and lapsed viewers room to catch up. Rotten Tomatoes lists the current season as available with a Peacock subscription or for purchase on Fandango.

Preview of “Under the Surface” and Voight’s Doubts About Boyden

According to the episode description, a tip from a former C.I. leads Intelligence to a gruesome discovery. At the same time, Voight becomes increasingly skeptical of Charlie Boyden’s motives. The pairing suggests a case that tests trust inside the bullpen as much as it tests the unit’s detective work.

The season opener, “Demolition,” had Intelligence investigate the shooting of a parole officer while Voight was forced to allow an outsider into the bullpen. It also saw Imani face a difficult decision involving her sister. Jason Beghe leads the cast as Voight, alongside Marina Squerciati, Patrick John Flueger, LaRoyce Hawkins, Benjamin Levy Aguilar, Arienne Mandi and Amy Morton.

The unit is also preparing for a loss. LaRoyce Hawkins is leaving the series this season, according to Deadline, and was reported to appear in only a couple of episodes. He filmed his final episode on August 13, and Jesse Lee Soffer is set to direct the second episode.

Showrunner Gwen Sigan told NBC Insider in May that she expects “a different season” with many new places to explore. Whether Voight’s growing doubts about Charlie Boyden prove justified once that gruesome discovery comes to light is the question worth watching, and readers are welcome to share in the comments how much they trust the newest face in Intelligence.
