Chris Evans’ Rugged Steve Rogers Look Takes Center Stage in New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ New Footage
For most of his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Steve Rogers was defined by a clean-cut, soldier-ready look. That image was the one fans last saw in ‘Avengers: Endgame’, where he appeared to retire after traveling back in time to return the Infinity Stones. When Marvel confirmed Chris Evans would return for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, many assumed that familiar version of the hero would be back too.
The first sign suggested exactly that. The initial teaser, which played in theaters with ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’, showed Steve putting away his Captain America suit while looking much as he did at the end of ‘Endgame’, with short hair and no beard. The full trailer told a very different story.
Now, new images shared by MCU – The Direct give fans their clearest look yet at Evans’ updated appearance. The stills show Steve with longer, brushed-back hair, a full beard, and a dark casual jacket, a far cry from the star-spangled hero audiences once knew.
The look is closer to his ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ appearance than to the polished soldier of earlier films. It’s a striking shift for a character who has spent more than a decade in uniform, and it immediately sets this version of Steve apart from his ‘Endgame’ farewell.

The new images follow Marvel’s special preview that aired during the World Series, which kept the rugged style front and center. Even Hot Toys has embraced it, with its new figure featuring a detailed beard and mid-length, brushed-back brown hair.
The film may show Steve at 2 different points in his life. One trailer features a beardless Evans holding his newborn son, while others show him with the fuller beard and longer hair. That suggests a possible time-skip between some of his earlier scenes and his return to the fight.

The casting of young actor Wesley Holloway has added fuel to that theory. Some believe he could play a slightly older version of Steve and Peggy’s son, which would help explain why Steve has aged into this rougher look.
Marvel’s merchandising has also hinted at a shift in identity. A new logo for Steve uses Mjolnir rather than the Captain America shield as his primary symbol, signaling a hero without his old mantle. He’s bearded and long-haired when he reunites with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and takes Mjolnir straight from his hands.

Reactions to the makeover have been mixed. After the trailer, many viewers praised the beard and longer hair, with some calling it peak Steve Rogers energy. Others noted that the character tends to wear either civilian clothes or a rugged, Nomad-inspired look.
Not everyone was won over, though. Some fans questioned the new appearance and compared it unfavorably to his scruffier ‘Infinity War’ style, sparking plenty of online debate.
Whatever fans think of the look, Steve’s role in the story appears significant. Co-director Joe Russo has teased that there is a very real reason the heroes need Steve now. His return reportedly gives him a central part in the film, while the shield and Avengers leadership remain with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson.

Evans won’t be stopping here either, as he’s also confirmed to appear in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. Fans will finally see this rugged version of Steve in action when ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ hits theaters on December 18.
