Chris Evans is best known for the role of Steve Rogers aka Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that is an all-known fact. Evans debuted as the First Avenger in 2011 in the first Captain America solo movie, and he concluded his MCU path in 2019’s Avengers Endgame. Well, as far as we know. Some fans are still hoping to see him again in the MCU, but let’s face it, that is a very, very long shot.
Although Steve Rogers concluded his MCU path, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson has become a new Captain America in last year’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series, which finished with the title Captain America and the Winter Soldier. Mackie is set to reprise the role in the upcoming Captain America 4, but there is one more character that could be called the successor of Captain America — Captain Carter, played by Hayley Atwell in the What If…? animated series and the recent movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Atwell played Agent Carter, Steve Rogers’s love interest in Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and several other MCU projects, including Avengers: Endgame. Although Evans finished his MCU path, Atwell may not be done with MCU yet. Evans recently shared his thoughts on Atwell playing Captain Carter.
“I haven’t seen it yet, but I heard it. I mean, she’s perfect for it. She’s truly just one of the best actresses I’ve ever worked with and just one of the loveliest humans. So I couldn’t be happier for her.” — Chris Evans for MTV News
It’s not likely that Evans will return as Steve Rogers again, although fans would love to see that, Evans recently responded to those wishes.
“I don’t want to disappoint anybody but it’s tough to… It was such a good run and I’m so happy with it. It’s so precious to me. It would have to be perfect. It just would be scary to rattle something that is, again, so, so dear to me. That role means so much to me. So, to revisit it, it would be a tall order.” — Chris Evans for ComicBook
Evans recently played the titular role in Pixar’s animated movie Lightyear, the spin-off of the Toy Story franchise. The movie is now playing in theaters.
