Tyler Rake’s next mission has been quietly taking shape for months, and Chris Hemsworth’s ‘Extraction 3’ journey has given fans plenty to watch along the way. Netflix officially greenlit the sequel back in April, confirming that Hemsworth, Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani would all return, with Sam Hargrave back in the director’s chair.

Cameras started rolling over the summer, with the production split between Sydney, the NSW South Coast and Thailand. For a franchise built on bruising practical stunts, the return to Thailand felt especially fitting, since the original film shot there and staged its climactic bridge battle in Ratchaburi.

Now the Thai leg appears to be winding down. In a new post on X, Hemsworth said he is finishing up his time in Thailand after a hectic few weeks filming ‘Extraction 3’, adding that he still found time on the weekends for some fun adventures away from set.

The photos, credited to Evan Paterakis, show the actor shirtless and wading through turquoise water beneath towering limestone cliffs, alongside a shot of an ornate terrace overlooking the sea. It’s a far cry from the brutal fight scenes he has been shooting, and fans clearly loved the glimpse behind the curtain.

Hemsworth’s time in Thailand hasn’t all been postcards, though. Earlier this month, he shared Instagram footage of himself in a boxing ring, drilling combinations, kicks and knee strikes as he prepared to bring Rake back to the screen.

The session was led by his friend and trainer Jack Boonsanong, whom Hemsworth thanked for the work. The striking-heavy drills marked a shift from his earlier strength and conditioning routine, hinting at the up-close combat the franchise is known for.

The Muay Thai connection didn’t stop there. Former ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon dropped by the ‘Extraction 3’ set in Ratchaburi, while British striker Ben Woolliss later held pads for the actor at a gym.

Fans have also been piecing together clues from the shoot itself. Set videos shared on social media showed Hemsworth performing action sequences on boats, suggesting the sequel will deliver some of the most intense set pieces of the series so far.

Plot details remain firmly under wraps. Netflix has confirmed only that the movie continues the hard-hitting franchise produced by AGBO, the company run by Anthony and Joe Russo, and that David Weil penned the script.

Hemsworth is also producing through his company Wild State alongside Benjamin Grayson. The team behind it is clearly confident in the series, with AGBO’s Angela Russo-Otstot calling it “a stellar action franchise that has proven itself a true standout” in a statement shared with Netflix Tudum.

The road here has been a long one. The first ‘Extraction’ hit Netflix on April 24, 2020, and ‘Extraction 2’ followed on June 16, 2023, with Hargrave helming both. Joe Russo first confirmed a third film was in development in April 2024, before the project officially moved forward 2 years later.

Netflix has yet to announce a release date. With filming wrapping this fall, the sequel isn’t expected to land on the streamer before 2027, which lines up with Hargrave’s earlier comments anticipating that window.

For now, Hemsworth’s farewell post serves as a fitting bookend to a demanding stretch of production. If the training clips and set footage are any indication, Tyler Rake is coming back hungrier and more battle-ready than ever.
