Chris Hemsworth’s ‘Extraction 3’ Has Officially Wrapped, But Not Everything Is Clear Yet

Tyler Rake has survived more than most action heroes have any right to. The former Australian special forces soldier turned mercenary has endured two movies that, as one outlet put it, didn’t seem very interested in keeping him alive. That kind of punishment has become part of the appeal of the franchise.

The road to a third film has been a slow one. Development began in April 2024, and Hemsworth made it clear he would only return if a story justified it rather than producing a sequel for the sake of it. Fans spent the next couple of years waiting for proof that the story was ready.

Now there is some. ‘Extraction 3’ has wrapped filming, a milestone highlighted by Culture Crave in a post that also lists the film’s star-studded cast. Hemsworth confirmed the news on Instagram, sharing photos from Thailand.

In the post, he said he was finishing up his time in Thailand after a crazy few weeks of filming, and that he had filled the weekends with some non-work adventures. The photos are more of a personal travelogue than a sneak peek at the action, with family excursions happening around the production rather than documenting it.

There is one small caveat worth noting. Hemsworth’s post more specifically marks the end of his own time in Thailand, though ComingSoon describes the country as the sequel’s final shooting location and reports that filming has wrapped. Either way, the shoot stuck to its schedule, having begun in July 2026 with an October wrap expected.

That timeline took the production across the globe. Cameras officially started rolling in Sydney in July, and August set photos from a luxury hotel on Sydney Harbour showed Hemsworth, Idris Elba and newcomer Pierce Brosnan filming a shoot-out that spilled into a brawl. The Thailand wrap also adds to the reported locations, since initial reports had pointed to Australia and Europe.

The cast list is stacked. Golshifteh Farahani and Elba return, while Don Lee, Joe Taslim, Chi Lewis-Parry, Siena Agudong and Brosnan join the third installment. Lee is reprising his role as Tygo, a former child soldier turned mercenary, from the franchise’s first spinoff film. Brosnan’s role is still undisclosed.

Elba is the biggest question mark hanging over the story. He was introduced as Alcott at the end of ‘Extraction 2,’ where he offered Rake and Nik Khan a way out of prison on the condition that they take missions on behalf of his boss. Plot details remain under wraps, but the third film is expected to pick up from that cliffhanger.

Behind the camera, the creative team is staying familiar. Sam Hargrave returns to direct, working from a screenplay by Joe Russo and David Weil. The franchise is based on the graphic novel ‘Ciudad,’ and cinematographer Fraser Taggart is also back.

As for when audiences will see it, Netflix isn’t saying. There is no confirmed release date, and the mid-2027 window floated by ComingSoon is speculation rather than an announcement. What’s on Netflix expects three ‘Extraction’ titles to land on the streamer across 2027, which would make it the busiest year the franchise has ever had.

For now, the wrap means ‘Extraction 3’ moves into post-production, and fans can start counting down. With the Hemsworth and Elba pairing set to collide, a stacked supporting cast and a cliffhanger still waiting for an answer, the wait for the first trailer is going to feel long.
