Christopher Nolan is returning to ancient Greece with his next big movie, The Odyssey. The film tells the story of Odysseus, the Greek king of Ithaca, as he struggles to return home after the Trojan War.

The first full trailer has just been released, giving fans their first proper look at Nolan’s epic vision.

Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, reuniting with Nolan after working together on Interstellar and Oppenheimer. Anne Hathaway plays his wife, Penelope, while Tom Holland takes on the role of their son, Telemachus.

The movie also features a star-studded cast including Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron. The film is produced by Nolan and his wife, Emma Thomas, through their company Syncopy.

The Odyssey is based on Homer’s ancient epic of the same name. It follows Odysseus as he faces dangerous adventures and mythical creatures, including the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the witch-goddess Circe, all while trying to return to Penelope and his kingdom.

According to reports, Nolan began writing the movie in March 2024 and secured it with Universal Pictures by October of that year. The film was officially announced in December 2024, with casting happening throughout late 2024. Damon was confirmed as Odysseus in February 2025. Filming took place between February and August in locations including Morocco, Greece, Italy, Scotland, Iceland, and Western Sahara. With a budget of $250 million, it is Nolan’s most expensive film to date and his first to be shot entirely on IMAX 70 mm film cameras.

The Odyssey is set to hit theaters in the United States on July 17, 2026. Fans can expect Nolan’s signature style combined with epic action, stunning visuals, and a story that has captivated audiences for thousands of years.
