The film has also become a massive draw in premium formats, with IMAX alone generating 140 million dollars worldwide for the movie, making it the format’s second fastest release ever to cross the 100 million dollar milestone.

On Rotten Tomatoes, ‘The Odyssey’ earned a Certified Fresh 94 percent score from critics, tied with ‘Memento’ and ‘The Dark Knight’ as Nolan’s highest ever Tomatometer score, along with a 97 percent Verified Hot audience score, his best Popcornmeter result yet.

There is one wrinkle worth noting before anyone declares Nolan’s podium spot official. None of this is locked in yet, since ‘The Odyssey’ still has to hold through the rest of its run, and Statista’s official rankings will not reflect a new total until the film’s box office run is finished. Still, industry watchers seem to treat the leap to third place as inevitable at this point, especially with the film yet to open in China, one of the largest theatrical markets in the world.
