Christopher Nolan is bringing Homer’s The Odyssey to life in a new epic fantasy-action film. Starring Matt Damon as Odysseus, the movie follows his dangerous journey home after the Trojan War, facing monsters, gods, and legendary challenges.

With a massive $250 million budget, it is Nolan’s most expensive film yet. The star-studded cast includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron. Filming is taking place in Morocco, Italy, Greece, and the UK, and the movie is set to release on July 17, 2026.

Not much is known about the movie so far, taking into account Nolan’s secret process of filmmaking but we can always rely on insiders to bring us the freshest rumors and set leaks.

The latest rumors come to us from @NolanAnalyst, a notable leaker of information related to Nolan’s productions.

According to extras who worked on the film in Greece and Italy, Nolan changed the story by giving Telemachus a much bigger role than he had in the original poem.

In The Odyssey, Telemachus is the son of Odysseus. He spends most of the story searching for news about his father, who has been missing for many years. He travels to meet different kings and warriors, hoping to find out if Odysseus is still alive. Meanwhile, back home, his mother, Penelope, is dealing with suitors who want to marry her, believing Odysseus is dead. In the end, Telemachus helps his father fight the suitors when Odysseus finally returns.

In Nolan’s version, it seems that Telemachus will have a bigger and more active part in the story. Tom Holland plays an important role in the film, and he might be playing Telemachus. If that’s true, his character will likely have more action and development than in the original poem.

The crew is currently working in Sicily, Italy, including the Aeolian Islands and Favignana, a place mentioned in the original poem. They are also filming in Greece with the help of a local company called Faliro House Productions. Some scenes will also be filmed in the United Kingdom.

The movie will be released in theaters by Universal Pictures on July 17, 2026, and will also be shown in IMAX.
