‘CIA’ Dead Drop Episode Recap and the Ricin Poisoning

The episode opens with Colin secretly listening in on a meeting between Nikki and Toni, where Nikki tells Toni she should be thankful she is alive and not in prison. What worries them both is that Toni plans to come back, and Colin has no idea.

The scene then cuts to a Russian party where Viktor is poisoned with ricin and looks for Colin’s help. With ricin there is no cure, and he has less than a day to live. In exchange, Viktor offers to help save American agents in Russia whose identities will soon be uncovered.

According to Viktor, Russian agents are carrying out a mission to kill all American spies in their country, and he was poisoned because he turned it down. Bill and Colin suspect he is lying, but Nikki calls to say he is telling the truth and that a few assets have already been killed.

Viktor’s Revenge and the Hunt for Pasha

Gregor has diplomatic immunity, so the team captures him quickly from a Russian club and takes him to a secret location. It becomes clear that Gregor did not poison Viktor, and he claims Viktor’s beloved protégé was sent to do it. Viktor is floored and hurt by the betrayal.

Gregor reveals that Pasha is running the mission, and the plan is to kidnap a woman named Sarah who holds the names of the American spies. She is due to arrive by train from Baltimore in two hours, so Colin suggests Teddy take Sarah’s place.

Viktor slips away from Bill and Colin and is found at the Lincoln Centre, waiting to hear the love of his life play the cello one last time. He had to give her up because of his job.

The switch at the train station works, and Teddy fights the men inside the van once the kidnappers take her. Viktor uses the chaos to steal one of Bill’s guns, but Colin calms him down before he kills Pasha.

Ending Explained for Viktor, Nikki and Stan

Stan later visits Nikki, and she assumes he is there to discuss a promotion. Instead he tells her the Russian criminals have been sent back to Russia and that he has given the ambassador a stern warning, before asking about Vincente and setting off her internal alarms.

Colin then takes Viktor to hear his former lover play at her concert. Viktor dies before he can answer whether he regrets choosing the life of a spy. That unanswered question gives the hour its quiet emotional weight, since it mirrors the choices facing both leads.

Back at the office, Nikki begins training Gina to see if she is ready for fieldwork, but she warns her against continuing to look into Vincente. The repeated mention of that name suggests the thread is far from finished.

Colin and Toni After the Credits Roll

That night, Colin goes home and burns everything he has about Toni’s case, though for some reason he keeps her picture. The gesture reads as a real attempt to move on that stops just short of finality.

Bill, meanwhile, tells his fiancée about his dad and comes clean about working for the CIA too. One reviewer noted that the less the people in his life know about his job, the safer they are, so the decision carries risk.

Critical reaction has been mixed in an interesting way. The review from Fangirlish called the episode almost completely standalone and centered on a guest character, while arguing that its ongoing plot threads were weaker. It also said the return of Toni undoes some of the progress the premiere made in cleaning the slate for Colin. With Colin burning the files but keeping that one photograph, do you think he is truly done with Toni, or is that picture the first sign of her return?
