Fans of the DC Universe got an exciting first look at Clayface with a new set video showing Matt Hagen dancing in front of the Gotham Courthouse. The clip offers a glimpse of the character in action and highlights the film’s dark and surreal tone.

Clayface is an upcoming superhero film that blends action and body horror. The story follows an actor whose face is disfigured by a gangster.

Desperate for a solution, he turns to a scientist, played by Naomi Ackie, who transforms him into a being made of clay. Tom Rhys Harries stars as the title character, while Eddie Marsan has joined the cast in a role that has not been revealed. The Matt Hagen version of Clayface is also expected to appear in the movie.

The project was initially pitched as a Clayface horror story by Mike Flanagan, who had previously expressed interest in exploring the character in a darker way. Flanagan is involved as a writer and producer, but scheduling conflicts prevented him from directing. James Watkins was later hired as director, and Hossein Amini rewrote the script.

Filming began on August 31, in Liverpool, England, under the working title Corinthians. Scenes have been shot in Derby Square, which is standing in for Gotham Hospital, and on North John Street, transformed into the Gotham Docks.

Gotham-themed vehicles are being stored at the former Merseyside Police headquarters. Soundstage work is taking place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden. Rob Hardy, who worked on the DCU film Supergirl (2026), serves as cinematographer.

The film is produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios, with Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris also serving as producers. Clayface will be part of DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters and is set to hit U.S. theaters on September 11, 2026.

The new set video of Matt Hagen dancing outside the Gotham Courthouse adds a playful yet eerie moment to the film’s dark story. It shows the mix of body horror and superhero action the movie is aiming for while giving fans a first taste of Clayface’s presence in Gotham.
