Clea: Charlize Theron’s Character In Doctor Strange 2 Explained
The recent release of the latest Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness Trailer allowed different people to come up with all sorts of theories based on what they saw. Of course, some of these theories are based on news reports. For one, Charlize Theron was reported to appear in the latest Doctor Strange movie, and the rumors are that she will be playing Clea. But who is Charlize Theron’s Clea in Doctor Strange 2?
Clea the Sorceress is an extra-dimension being born to a Faltine named Umar, the sister of Dormammu, and Prince Orini, the son of the former ruler of the Dark Dimension. In the comics, she worshipped Dormammu but eventually betrayed him when she met Doctor Strange in the Dark Dimension.
It is interesting to note that Multiverse Of Madness is set to unveil a lot of other new Marvel characters while exploring the possibilities of the multiverse. That said, there is a good chance that Charlize Theron will be playing Clea, given that she is an extra-dimensional being. And we’ll try to look at how she fits into the entire story in this article.
Who Is Charlize Theron Playing In Doctor Strange 2?
One of the things we learned over the past few years is that Marvel isn’t shy about bringing in notable actors to play new or old roles in MCU films, given that these movies are almost always some of the biggest blockbusters. That said, there have been reports that suggest that notable actress Charlize Theron will be playing a character in the upcoming Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness movie.
The reports say that the talks between Marvel and Theron have already gone past mere talks already, as the Mad Max star is ready to join the MCU. And there are also rumors that suggest that she will be playing a hero and not a villain. So, who will Charlize Theron be playing in Doctor Strange 2?
It is typical for Marvel and everyone involved in the movies to keep their mouths shut and to hold their tongue when it comes to who will be in the films and what role they will be playing. This means that, as of this moment, there is no certainty as to who Charlize Theron will be playing.
However, there are speculations that she will be playing the role of Clea, who is one of the most notable characters in the entire Doctor Strange comic books. Being a sorceress and a being that lives in a different dimension fits the bill. Of course, Clea’s appearance also fits Charlize Theron’s look.
Then again, there are also other speculations that she will be playing Sue Storm, who we know as the Invisible Girl in the Fantastic Four storylines. Considering that there is a good chance that Reed Richards will appear due to his relationship with the Illuminati as one of its members, there might be a chance that Mister Fantastic’s love interest will also make an appearance in the movie.
However, because there is a good chance that Clea will play a bigger role in the future of the MCU due to the fact that she is quite involved with Doctor Strange in the comics, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Charlize Theron will be playing the sorceress in the upcoming movie and in the future Doctor Strange storylines.
Who Is Clea?
Clea is a character that is often seen in the Doctor Strange storylines. She was born to a Faltine (creatures of pure magic) mother, who is also the sister of Dormammu, and the son of the former ruler of the Dark Dimension. This means that she is half-Faltine and half-Dark Dimension mortal. And her status as a Dark Dimension being means that she also worships Dormammu.
Her origins in the Doctor Strange storyline began when the Ancient One gave Doctor Strange the task to travel to the Dark Dimension to stop Dormammu from trying to take over Earth. When Strange went to the Dark Dimension, he met Clea, who became curious about the human. They decided to work together, as Dormammu realized that one of his worshippers had betrayed him.
After Dormammu’s defeat, Strange and Clea began a relationship wherein they both worked together several times in different dimensions. They even dethroned Clea’s mother in the Dark Dimension, as Clea herself became the new ruler.
As a being with Faltine and Dark Dimension mortal abilities, Clea is a master sorceress. Her magical abilities seem natural to her, especially after she trained with Doctor Strange in the ways of the mystic arts. And due to her physiology, Clea could also naturally fly and hover without the use of any tools.
Clea soon became the Sorceress Supreme of the Dark Dimension, as it was clear that she possessed a natural affinity to magic. Using her magical abilities, she could cast magical energy bolts and perform a lot of different spells. The Flames of Faltine is also a magical ability that allows her to enhance her magic to higher levels.
Is Clea Doctor Strange’s Wife?
When Doctor Strange and Clea met in the Dark Dimension, they became curious about one another. They soon began a romantic relationship wherein one would save the other from all sorts of trouble whenever it was possible to do so.
However, Clea never became Strange’s wife because they couldn’t legally marry on Earth. That’s because Clea is an extra-dimensional being. However, they still solidified their union by using magical rings to show that they were committed to one another.
Clea becoming Doctor Strange’s new love interest in the MCU seems to fit the bill. We saw in the latest trailer that Christine Palmer was set to get married, and Strange most likely isn’t the groom, especially when you look at the fact that he was away for five years.
Christine Palmer might have moved on during the five years that Doctor Strange was snapped out of existence. And considering that Strange has a larger responsibility on his shoulders, a relationship with Palmer wouldn’t have worked out.
How Could Clea Fit Into The Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness?
There is no telling how Clea could fit into the entire narrative of Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness because the entire plot and how it will involve the multiverse is still something that is up in the air right now.
All we know is that the movie will revolve around the fallout of Strange meddling with the multiverse in the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. It’s quite possible that the different universes and dimensions will begin to clash with one another, depending on things play out in the film.
Considering her status as an extra-dimensional being, Clea could possibly enter the fold because she can travel between dimensions in the comics. And might be possible that, being a magical being, she will become a part of the Doctor Strange storylines moving forward.
Of course, because there is a possibility that Strange and Palmer are no longer going to rekindle their relationship, Clea might fill in the romantic interest hole that the doctor left in Strange’s life, considering that she indeed became his romantic partner in the comics.
