Colman Domingo Speaks Out After Paris Jackson Questions Michael Jackson Biopic
Colman Domingo is addressing the public friction that occurred last year regarding his comments on the highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic. In a recent interview with WSJ Magazine, the acclaimed actor expressed a sincere hope that the singer’s daughter, Paris Jackson, will ultimately embrace the film.
He stated, “I hope that she eventually loves the tribute that we made about her father.” This sentiment comes after a very public disagreement that fully unfolded in September 2025.
At that time, Domingo, who plays the family patriarch Joe Jackson in the Antoine Fuqua-directed film, told People magazine that Paris and her brother, Prince, were “very much in support of our film.”
Paris Jackson quickly took to social media to clarify that she had no actual involvement in the production and felt misrepresented by the actor’s words. On her Instagram Stories, Paris pushed back firmly, writing, “[Colman Domingo], don’t be telling people I was ‘helpful’ on the set of a movie I had 0% involvement in lol that is so weird.”
She explained that while she had read a very early version of the script and provided some critical feedback, her notes were not taken into account. She ultimately chose to step away from the project, stating, “Not my monkeys, not my circus. God bless and God speed.”
In the wake of this recent interview, Domingo has clarified that his previous statements were taken out of context. He revealed that he reached out to Paris privately via Instagram to explain the misunderstanding and that she responded with a simple heart emoji, indicating that the two are not actually at odds.
He emphasized that his goal has always been to approach the complex subject matter of the Jackson family with humanity and respect. The film Michael has had a long and challenging journey to the screen.
Originally slated for an earlier release, the production faced extensive reshoots and editing to ensure the final cut met the studio’s standards. Starring Michael Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, in his feature film debut, the biopic is designed to be an expansive look at the King of Pop’s professional triumphs and personal struggles.
Beyond this role, Colman Domingo continues to be one of the busiest and most respected actors in Hollywood. Following his recent work in projects like the prison drama Sing Sing and the musical adaptation The Color Purple, he is currently moving into directing.
He is slated to helm the upcoming biopic about Nat King Cole, titled Unforgettable, which he is also co-writing and producing. The film Michael features a star-studded ensemble cast, including Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, Miles Teller as entertainment lawyer John Branca, and Kat Graham as Diana Ross.
With anticipation building as the release date approaches, the film is poised to be a significant cultural event when it hits theaters worldwide. Audiences can catch the cinematic spectacle on the big screen starting April 24.
