‘Constantine 2’ Is Closer Than Ever – Keanu Reeves & Director Tease ‘Great Idea’!

Although nearly two decades have passed, Keanu Reeves’ John Constantine might finally be returning to the big screen!

In November 2012, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro signed a deal to develop a Justice League Dark film, centered around DC Comics’ supernatural characters, including John Constantine. Then, in November 2020, actor Peter Stormare hinted at a sequel being “in the works” through an Instagram post. However, neither Warner Bros. nor Reeves immediately confirmed this.

Fast forward to 2023, director Francis Lawrence revealed that he had been working on ideas for the highly anticipated sequel with Keanu Reeves. However, every time they developed something concrete, changes in DC Studios’ leadership disrupted their progress.

Now Francis Lawrence says Constantine 2 is closer than ever to happening! He, Keanu Reeves, and producer Akiva Goldsman have been working hard on an idea they’re really excited about.

Despite years of setbacks, the movie remains a passion project, and Lawrence promises they have something “really cool” in the works. He also says the film is in its best shape yet as it gets closer to production.

I will say we are closer than ever to being able to do a sequel, which is a great thing. And Akiva, Keanu and I are super, super excited about it.

After lots of brainstorming, Lawrence and his team have finally cracked the story. They’ve explored new comics released since the first movie but are mainly building the sequel from their own passion for the character and world, developing ideas they’ve had in mind for 20 years.

We have a great idea. We have gone through a bunch of the comics over the years and looked at things. I will say that there’s probably grains from things that we’re pulling, but in truth, most of it is just coming from the three of us, you know, loving the character, loving the world, having it sort of in the back of our minds for 20 years and just kind of percolating on ideas, and stories and characters we love, and ideas we love.
