Could a Solo Hulk Movie Finally Happen? Ruffalo Talks Marvel
Mark Ruffalo has opened up about the possibility of a solo Hulk movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, giving fans a rare glimpse into the character’s future.
The actor, who has played Bruce Banner and the Hulk since 2012’s The Avengers, said during a GQ interview that he would love to have his own film. “Yeah, I’d love to have a solo Hulk movie,” Ruffalo said.
However, a standalone Hulk project remains complicated. Ruffalo explained that the character is not fully owned by Marvel, but is partially a Universal property.
“I don’t know if it’ll ever really come to be, honestly,” he admitted. He added that Marvel and he continue to discuss ideas, but the challenge is finding a story that works. “There’s been so many Hulk movies already, it’s like, does anyone really want another one? But I’d love one, and I do think the audiences would be into it if we could crack the nut of it.”
The last Hulk film, The Incredible Hulk, came out in 2008 starring Edward Norton. Ruffalo took over the role in 2012, and although the character has appeared in several Avengers films and other MCU projects, he has yet to have his own story in this version of the franchise.
Last year, Ruffalo said Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told him that another Hulk movie would likely not happen. “As far as I know. I could talk more about it but I’ve been told not to,” he said.
Ruffalo was recently announced to be in talks to return for Spider-Man: Brand New Day with Tom Holland, but the actor admitted he is still waiting on details.
“I haven’t read a script yet,” he said. Fans are also unsure if he will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, as his name was missing from the recent cast reveal. Ruffalo joked about the omission, saying, “They decided that it was better to get rid of me than for me to tell the end of the next movie.”
His last on-screen appearance as Hulk was in the Disney Plus series She-Hulk (2022), where it was revealed that Bruce Banner has a son, Skaar. While both characters are expected to appear in future MCU projects, Ruffalo’s exact plans within the franchise remain unclear.
