Larry Fong, the cinematographer of Batman v Superman, has sparked speculation about a potential Zack Snyder return to the DC Universe.

Fong shared a frame from Batman v Superman on X, which quickly drew reactions from fans. One fan added the hashtag #RestoreTheSnyderverse, expressing excitement over the post.

Fong said “Zack [Snyder is] posting some past memories on Instagram, so I thought I would too. They were good times. Don’t try to read too much into it.” But when another fan suggested Snyder might be teasing something, Fong replied, “Never say never…”

Snyder himself addressed his future with DC in a 2023 interview. He said he no longer plans to direct superhero comic book adaptations, particularly after the conclusion of the DCEU continuity with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. However, he left the door open for a specific project, stating he might return if James Gunn asked him to direct a faithful adaptation of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns comic book.

Even though Snyder is not actively directing, he has stayed involved with the DC Universe in smaller ways. James Gunn consulted him on the design of David Corenswet’s Superman suit for the upcoming Superman film. This shows that Snyder’s creative input is still valued in the DC Universe, even if he is not leading a project.
