“David Is Dead. But Night City Lives On” – ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ Confirms Season 2 Production With Heartbreaking Teaser

At Anime Expo 2025, fans got exciting news as the sequel to the popular anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was officially announced. The first poster for the new series was revealed, and some familiar faces appeared at the event, including voice actors Emi Lo, who plays Lucy, and Zach Aguilar, the voice of David Martinez.
Bartosz Sztybor, the writer and producer of the series, was also there, along with director Hiroyuki Imaishi, who made a surprise appearance.
When asked why a sequel was made, Sztybor explained that Night City has many stories left to tell. He said he dreamed the story wouldn’t end with the first anime because there are lots of interesting characters and tales to explore. He also joked, “I wasn’t satisfied with the sadness… so I want you to be even more sad now.”
Now Netflix has released a short teaser, reminding fans that David is dead, but the stories will continue:

The new Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will be another 10-episode series set in the Cyberpunk 2077 world. It’s described as “a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge.” Kai Ikarashi, who directed episode six of the original series called “Girl on Fire,” will be directing this new season. The story asks, “When the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?”
CD Projekt Red is the company behind the Cyberpunk 2077 video game and the original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime. The first series was made by animation studio TRIGGER, with Rafał Jaki as the showrunner and executive producer. The franchise also recently launched a prequel manga about characters Rebecca and Pilar.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners first aired in September 2022 with 10 episodes. It quickly became a fan favorite and won awards for Best New Anime and Best Original Anime. Netflix currently streams the show, which follows a street kid trying to survive in the high-tech city of Night City by becoming an edgerunner, a kind of cyberpunk mercenary.
Michał Nowakowski, Joint-CEO of CDPR, confirmed that the new Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will be released on Netflix, saying it will come “in due time.”
This announcement has fans eager for more stories from Night City, promising a darker and deeper dive into the world they loved from the first series.
