The trailer for Splitsville is finally here, and it gives a funny but chaotic look into what happens when a marriage on the edge gets even more complicated. Dakota Johnson and Adria Arjona star in the upcoming comedy, which takes a bold swing at relationships, open marriages, and the emotional mess that can come with them.

The movie tells the story of a couple trying to fix their troubled marriage by opening it up, but things don’t go as planned. The situation quickly spins out of control when one of them ends up sleeping with someone they definitely shouldn’t have.

According to the official synopsis, the story centers around two couples whose friendship breaks down after the husband from the divorcing couple sleeps with the wife from the open marriage.

Splitsville is directed by Michael Angelo Covino, who also acts in the film. He co-wrote the screenplay with Kyle Marvin. The cast includes Dakota Johnson as Julie and Adria Arjona as Ashley.

Other actors in the film include Marvin, Covino, Nicholas Braun, David Castañeda, O-T Fagbenle, Charlie Gillespie, and Simon Webster. Johnson also worked behind the scenes as a producer through her company TeaTime Pictures, while Arjona served as an executive producer along with Paul Barbeau.

The film had its world premiere on May 19, 2025, at the Cannes Film Festival in the Cannes Premiere section. It got people talking there, and now it’s getting ready to hit theaters across the U.S. on August 22, 2025. Neon will handle the movie’s release.

Back in August 2024, it was announced that Covino, Arjona, Johnson, and Marvin had joined the project, with Covino directing.

Later that year in November, more cast members, including Nicholas Braun and David Castañeda, came on board. Filming started in September 2024 and wrapped up the following month.

The trailer shows just how messy things can get when couples try to “fix” their problems in risky ways. There are lots of awkward moments, fast-moving arguments, and uncomfortable laughs. This isn’t just a romantic comedy, it’s a comedy about the disaster that can happen when people don’t set clear boundaries.

Splitsville looks like it’s aiming to make people laugh and cringe at the same time, especially with a cast full of strong comedic and dramatic talent.
