Dakota Johnson Just Turned the ‘Verity’ Premiere Into Her Own Personal Runway

Dakota Johnson’s red carpet appearances for ‘Verity’ have become a fashion event of their own. The actress stars in the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel alongside Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett, and she has used the press tour to show off some of her most memorable looks. Working with stylist Kate Young, Johnson has long been willing to take risks on the carpet, which is part of why fans pay such close attention to her press tours.

The London stop set a high bar. At the UK gala screening at Curzon Mayfair on September 24, Johnson wore an ivory French lace dress from Colleen Allen’s F/W 26 collection. Her black Fleur du Mal bra and underwear showed through the sheer fabric, and the dress had a short train behind her on the carpet.

The New York premiere took things in another direction. On September 29, Johnson arrived at AMC Lincoln Square 13 for the film’s New York premiere wearing a custom white Calvin Klein Collection two-piece covered in crystal fringe. It was her second custom Calvin Klein Collection look in only a few days, after her guest appearance at the MTV VMAs, and this one was definitely not sheer.

The outfit paired a crystal-fringed bralette with a column-silhouette skirt, both finished with cascading crystal fringe. At a glance, it looked like the top had an illusion neckline trimmed in crystals, but the sparkle was actually a Roberto Coin diamond necklace that matched the bralette so well it almost looked like part of the design.

Red Carpet Fashion Awards noted that the ensemble took inspiration from the recent Spring 2027 runway. The outlet also traced Johnson’s steady move toward lighter shades as the tour progressed, from cream Colleen Allen in London to blush Calvin Klein at the VMAs to ivory in New York.

Johnson’s look also stood out next to her co-star’s. Hathaway chose black Atelier Prabal Gurung, which made Johnson’s ivory fringe look even brighter in photos. The response online was quick, and a JumpTrailers post praising Johnson’s appearance drew more many fans.

Johnson wasn’t alone on the carpet. Hathaway, Hartnett, Ismael Cruz Córdova, director Michael Showalter, and Hoover herself all attended the New York premiere of the Amazon MGM Studios release. For readers who have followed the book for years, seeing the author next to her cast was a moment in its own right.

Behind the glamour is a dark psychological thriller. Johnson plays Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who moves to the isolated Crawford estate to ghostwrite for renowned author Verity Crawford, played by Hathaway. After Lowen finds what seem to be Verity’s disturbing autobiographical notes, she has to deal with twisted confessions about Verity’s husband Jeremy, played by Hartnett.

The film is rated R for sexual content, some nudity, language, violence, and bloody images, and it runs 114 minutes. Showalter directs from a screenplay by Nick Antosca. The project also reunites Showalter and Hathaway after their work together on ‘The Idea of You.’

The thriller’s release date moved during development. The film was first set for May 15 before Amazon MGM Studios pushed it back, a change widely viewed as a way to release it in the middle of spooky season. It now arrives in theaters on October 2.

The early outlook is strong. According to Box Office Theory, ‘Verity’ is tracking toward an opening between $20 million and $29 million, and it will compete directly with the Tom Cruise comedy ‘Digger.’ SlashFilm has even called the film a possible sleeper hit of the fall.
