Daniel Craig’s Uncle Andrew Revealed in First Look at ‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’
Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’ has been one of the most intriguing projects on Netflix’s slate, and Daniel Craig is quickly becoming one of its biggest talking points. Published in 1955, ‘The Magician’s Nephew’ was the second-to-last Narnia novel C.S. Lewis released, yet it serves as a prequel to the rest of the series and has never received a live-action movie adaptation before.
The story follows 2 children who travel between worlds, witnessing the creation of Narnia and ultimately becoming responsible for the creation of the wardrobe. Craig plays Uncle Andrew Ketterley, the magician who sets everything in motion after spending his life tinkering with magical objects, with life-changing results for his nephew Digory, played by David McKenna, and neighbor Polly, played by Beatrice Campbell.
On September 24, Film Crave shared a new image of Craig in the film, billing it as a first look and reminding fans that the movie arrives in theaters on February 12, 2027. The still shows Craig in a long dark coat with a leather satchel, clutching a bundle of papers as he stands on a rubble-strewn street lined with brick buildings, flanked by 2 children in period clothing.
As one reply to the post pointed out, Craig’s look had already been revealed. Empire unveiled the first official image of him as Uncle Andrew on September 18, showing the disheveled magician in his study surrounded by glasses and beakers, as The Playlist described it. The new still coincides with Empire’s November issue hitting shelves on September 24, featuring the magazine’s full set-visit cover story.

Craig has offered an intriguing take on his character. “I’d like to say that his intentions are good, but I’m not sure that they are,” he told Empire. “It’s not to say that he’s cruel and mean and awful.”
The actor explained that Andrew gets overexcited about what could be, and as a result overlooks the people around him and the consequences of his actions. Gerwig was even more blunt, describing Andrew as the stupidest magician in the world who actually made magic.

The role clearly means a lot to Craig. He recalled staying up all night as a child to read ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’, saying it was the first time he had ever read a book cover to cover.
The images released so far reveal a bold aesthetic. Meryl Streep’s Aslan has reportedly been given a look inspired by 1970s-era David Bowie, while Emma Mackey appears as Jadis, the future White Witch, in a shimmering silver sequined gown.
GeekTyrant noted that the visuals suggest a ’70s glam rock and British prog influence throughout the movie. Gerwig has explained that she drew heavily on the music of the 1960s and 1970s, describing Narnia as a world sung to life by Aslan and rock ‘n’ roll as a world made out of music.

World of Reel even compared the production design to something out of a Terry Gilliam film, praising Gerwig for going maximalist rather than copying previous Narnia adaptations.
Uncle Andrew marks another shift for Craig after years as James Bond. The Playlist described the role as another hard pivot, following his turns as Benoit Blanc in the ‘Knives Out’ films and William Lee in ‘Queer’.
He’s also set to star in Damien Chazelle’s upcoming prison-set film alongside Cillian Murphy, according to World of Reel. The Narnia cast also includes Carey Mulligan and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.

‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’ opens in theaters and IMAX on February 12, 2027, with a 45-day theatrical window before it debuts on Netflix on April 2, 2027. With each new image, Gerwig’s unconventional vision for Lewis’ world is coming into sharper focus.
