‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3 to Chart a Bold New Path, Says Jesse Wigutow
Daredevil: Born Again has become one of the standout shows in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The series first arrived on Disney+ on March 4, 2025, with its opening two episodes. Season 1 included nine episodes and received positive reviews for its gritty tone and character-driven story, connecting back to the original Netflix series.
Season 2 is scheduled for March 2026 with eight episodes. It is expected to be even bigger, with higher stakes, expanded storylines, and more action.
Returning characters include Matt Murdock, Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), and Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher (Jon Bernthal). Fans will also see Krysten Ritter back as Jessica Jones, raising hopes for potential appearances by other Defenders like Iron Fist or Luke Cage. Additionally, a Punisher special created during Season 1 is planned for 2026 under the Marvel Studios Special Presentations banner.
Writer and producer Jesse Wigutow shared insights with Collider about the show’s direction. He described Season 2 as a wide, ambitious story of crime and politics in New York, building toward a climactic confrontation between Murdock and Mayor Fisk. “We told this really big story, it got very wide, and then we kind of drive it in the finale to really what matters most… these two characters and the conflict that they’re in,” Wigutow said.
Looking further ahead, Season 3 is already in development, set for a March 2027 release as part of Phase Six of the MCU. Despite some confusion earlier this year when Charlie Cox called the upcoming season the “final season,” Marvel Television confirmed it is moving forward.
Wigutow explained that while Season 3 continues the story, it will also take a fresh approach. “It is a continuation, but it is a new direction, and it is leaving a lot of what was built in [Seasons] 1 and 2 behind,” he said.
Production for the new season is still in the early stages. Wigutow confirmed that the writers’ room will reconvene soon to begin developing scripts, with filming expected to start sometime next year.
It’s exciting to see Daredevil: Born Again evolving while staying true to its core characters. A new direction could bring fresh energy to the series and open the door for new storylines.
But fans will surely be watching to see if it keeps the dark, gritty tone that made the first season so compelling. What do you think about Season 3 taking a bold new path? Share your thoughts in the comments.
