‘Daredevil’ Season 4 Was Set to Unleash Typhoid Mary Before Bullseye’s Return in S5, Reveals Erik Oleson

Before Disney+ MCU shows were a thing, Netflix’s Daredevil ran for 3 seasons as Netflix and Disney were making deals separately. Disney was starting its own streaming service (Disney+), so Netflix ended all its Marvel shows (Daredevil, Luke Cage, etc.) to avoid promoting a rival. Fans were upset, but as you know at this point Daredevil later returned to the MCU with Daredevil: Born Again.

Now showrunner of the former series Erik Oleson had a good chat with the wrap and revealed several interesting things.

Oleson is happy Daredevil returned, but thinks it’s strange because Netflix originally canceled it. “I’m very excited that the show came back at a different network. It’s so weird. As a showrunner, you’re kind of prepared for your show to be canceled. You’re not necessarily prepared for your studio [to be canceled]. It was a very bizarre thing,” Oleson said.

Oleson also said that he outlined plans for future seasons of the show and it was supposed to include Typhoid Mary then it was going to circle back to Bullseye storyline in Season 5.

The Season 4 I had planned was quite different. It was a Typhoid Mary story. It was going to go into a different direction. And then I was going to circle back to the Bullseye storyline in Season 5,” he continued. “I was starting to plan out future seasons and what we would do, kind of a long arc. And then, of course, Netflix and Marvel broke up because Disney+ wanted Marvel.

Erik Oleson isn’t working on Daredevil: Born Again, but he’s happy to see his old friends from the Netflix show return. He’s only watched the first episode so far because he’s been busy with his own project, The Bondsman.

Recently, he had dinner with Vincent D’Onofrio (who plays Kingpin), and Vincent told him how excited he and the rest of the cast are about the new series. Oleson is glad the Daredevil “family” is back together, and even though he’s not involved, he’ll be watching as a fan. He’s also excited to hear that another season is already in the works.
