Dave Bautista Crashes Into ‘Road House’ Sequel, Joining Jake Gyllenhaal
Dave Bautista is officially joining the cast of the upcoming Road House sequel, according to Nexus Point News.
The new film, which follows the 2024 action remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal, is currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios. While details about Bautista’s role are still under wraps, sources say he’ll be playing a former fighter, similar to Gyllenhaal’s character, Dalton. The sequel will also introduce a mostly new cast, meaning many of the original characters won’t be returning.
Jake Gyllenhaal had already shown interest in a sequel back in March 2024, and by May, the project was officially in development with him back in the lead role. Amazon MGM Studio head Jennifer Salke confirmed that work on the film is moving forward. In April 2025, director Guy Ritchie was in talks to join the project and was later confirmed to direct. The script is being written by Will Beall, known for Aquaman and Bad Boys: Ride or Die.
However, things changed in July 2025 when Guy Ritchie left the film. Soon after, Ilya Naishuller entered talks to take over directing duties. The studio hasn’t made an official announcement yet, but the transition is reportedly underway.
The first Road House remake, which brought Gyllenhaal into the spotlight as the new Dalton, received mixed reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 60% approval rating from 205 critics, with an average score of 5.6 out of 10.
The critics’ consensus reads, “Road House updates a cult classic for a new generation, happily replicating the original’s emphasis on cheesy brawn over narrative brains.” Over on Metacritic, the film has a score of 57 out of 100, based on 46 reviews, which points to “mixed or average” feedback.
Even with the mixed reception, the film found an audience, and the sequel looks to build on that momentum with fresh characters and bigger action. With Bautista now on board and Gyllenhaal returning, fans can expect another wild ride—though it’s still too early to know exactly when the movie will hit screens.
