Guardians of the Galaxy’s Dave Bautista and Aquaman’s Jason Momoa recently worked together on Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, although they didn’t have scenes together. While Dune is now playing in theaters, Bautista and Momoa will not so soon start working together again on their own buddy cop film, as Bautista confirmed on his Instagram account.
Two months and 11 days ago, Bautista wrote a tweet, manifesting a Lethal Weapon type of buddy cop movie he wanted to make with Game of Thrones, Aquaman, and See star Jason Momoa. Now, Deadline recently reported that MGM will distribute the movie that still has no official title, but it’s known that Jonathan Tropper is developing the script.
No director is attached to the project yet. Bautista expressed the wish that Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, and Hobbs & Shaw director David Leitch should helm the project. It’s unknown if Leitch was approached yet, but there’s no hurry. The movie won’t start production before 2023. It is expected that the movie will be filmed in Hawaii.
Dave Bautista is currently filming Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, and he’s also set to return for Dune: Part Two, while Jason Momoa is filming DC’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
