Dave Filoni Sheds Some Light on the ‘Star Wars’ Movie Strategy

The Star Wars franchise has been one of the most enduring ones, as well as one of the most popular ones of all time. Started by George Lucas in 1977, the franchise has since evolved and grown, but as of the time of writing, it is in a very complex position.

Namely, after Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm, the Star Wars franchise went in a different direction, and many fans are not satisfied with that direction. The new projects have had a mixed reception, and whichever side you’re taking, you have to admit that the Star Wars franchise is not as successful as it has been.

Currently, the franchise is on a sort of hiatus, as it is evident that Lucasfilm is pondering the future and how to proceed after a string of less-successful projects. Among the people who are expected to push things forward in the right direction is Dave Filoni, and he recently shone some light on that issue.

Dave Filoni is someone who’s had a string of successful Star Wars projects, including many animated series and The Mandalorian. And while he is not the main head of the Star Wars universe, he is one of the most important people in terms of crafting the future of the franchise.

Recently, Filoni had a chat with the press and he finally shone some light on the enigmatic strategy that Lucasfilm has when Star Wars is concerned. “I think it’s a combination of great stories and great storytellers, personally. I think we want people who are excited to come in, like Shawn Levy, who have a great idea and want to develop it together so we can find a way to get it to where he likes, but also have it fit in with all of the stories we’ve told,” he started his reply.

And while this is quite general, he did confirm that Shawn Levy’s Star Wars film is moving forward, so that is great news then and there. He did continue, though. “For me, it’s all about the story and the talent, who are the people leading these, and how Lucasfilm can help each creative be a bit unique. We find ways to connect them, but I want all their stories to be unique because they’re special storytellers in their own right. So that’s our balancing act,” he added.

As you can see, this is not a precise answer, it is actually very general, but if you read between the lines, this looks like Star Wars will be heading into a phase with more individual projects, where authors will get to explore different parts of the lore with more creative freedom. Whether it will work or not… well, time will tell, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the franchise becomes as successful as it was earlier.
