David Beckham has shared new details about his wife Victoria Beckham’s upcoming Netflix documentary, revealing that convincing her to take part wasn’t easy.

Speaking at MIP London, Beckham explained that despite the success of his own Netflix series Beckham, Victoria was hesitant about stepping into the spotlight for her own docuseries.

It took a minute to try and get her to agree with it,” he admitted. “It wasn’t something that was easy. I think I’m the only one who could convince her, and I did, eventually.”

The documentary, which is being produced by Beckham’s Studio 99 and directed by Becoming filmmaker Nadia Hallgren, will take fans behind the scenes of Victoria’s journey from her days as a Spice Girl to her rise as a fashion designer. Beckham emphasized how hard his wife has worked to build her brand over the past two decades.

My wife is one of the hardest working women that I know, and she’s been building her business for the last 20 years,” he said. “There’s so many different elements of this documentary that people are going to be surprised with … I suppose some people probably think she started this brand and it came very easy, but she’s been working for a long time.”

The documentary will also include emotional and dramatic moments. Beckham recalled a particularly stressful experience at Paris Fashion Week, saying:

“I turned up, like I always do, the night before to see the venue and do the walk-through with her. I’m never worried about one of her shows, but I was worried. It was scheduled for rain. The rain was horrendous. Girls were cold. Everything about it had the potential to go wrong.”

David Beckham’s Beckham documentary, which explored his life, career, and marriage, was a major hit on Netflix, winning an Emmy for outstanding documentary. However, the former footballer revealed that he wasn’t initially thrilled about making it.

“I even called my team before production started to ask, ‘Is there any way of stopping this?’” he confessed.

Despite his reservations, Beckham admitted that the response to the series was overwhelming.

The impact at the end was incredible,” he said. “The amount of people that have watched it, that loved it, and got so much from it. That was the most rewarding part for me, to have people come up and say either, ‘Thank you for reminding us of the story,’ or ‘I didn’t know you went through those things,’ or ‘Thank you for telling the stories about your family.’”
