David Corenswet Chooses Lightsaber Over Cape — Says He’d Rather Be a Jedi Than Superman
David Corenswet, who’s just made his big-screen debut as Superman in James Gunn’s reboot, has revealed he’s actually a massive Star Wars fan. In fact, he even said he’d rather be in Star Wars than return as the Man of Steel, if he had to choose.
David sat down with his Superman co-star Nicholas Hoult for a fun lie detector test video with Vanity Fair. The two actors asked each other random questions, and things got interesting when Star Wars came up.
David admitted that he watches Star Wars movies regularly—especially around New Year’s Eve—and even binges 3 to 4 films in one go. When Nicholas asked him to quote a line from the franchise, David laughed and said he always remembers them when he’s watching, but couldn’t come up with any on the spot.
Then came the big question: Would he choose to star in a Superman sequel or play a Jedi Knight in Star Wars? David took a deep breath and said, “Jedi Knight in Star Wars.” According to the lie detector, he was telling the truth. Nicholas looked shocked and asked if that was the toughest decision he’d had to make. David replied, “It was among them!”
He added, “In the end, as many things do, it came down to the money. I’m already under contract for a sequel, but I’d be fresh negotiating with Star Wars, so.”
David went on to explain what role he’d love to play in the galaxy far, far away. “My dream role I think would be to play like an X-wing pilot in a Star Wars film. A Jedi was sort of my childhood dream, but now, since I’m into aviation, that like sitting in an X-wing cockpit sounds so—first of all, great way to shoot a movie. You’re just sitting in the cockpit. You don’t have to learn any choreography, you just beep-boop-boop-boop,” he said while laughing.
David stars as Superman in the DC film released worldwide on July 11. The cast also includes Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
So while David might be Superman right now, don’t be surprised if you see him wielding a lightsaber in a galaxy far, far away someday.
