David Corenswet Says Cavill and Hoechlin Told Him One Thing About Playing Superman

David Corenswet is getting ready to step into the iconic role of Superman, and he recently opened up about something pretty cool that happened after he was cast. While speaking with Beat 102 103, he said he got letters from Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin, the last two actors who wore the cape before him.

Corenswet said both Cavill and Hoechlin reached out in their own way. He explained that they didn’t try to give him advice or tell him how to play the character. Instead, they offered something more meaningful. “Both of them interestingly said in their own words, ‘I’m not gonna try to give you any tips.’ They really just conveyed to me an encouragement and a sense of ‘have fun with it,’” he shared.

That kind of support makes sense coming from two actors who know exactly what it feels like to take on the role of Superman. Cavill led the charge in the DCEU, starting with Man of Steel, and appeared in several other DC films.

Hoechlin was the Superman of the CW’s Arrowverse and starred in Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, and finally got his own show, Superman & Lois, which just recently wrapped up.

Even though some fans are still upset about Cavill being replaced and have voiced their frustration online, including trying to start small boycott movements, Corenswet hasn’t let any of that negativity get to him. He spoke with nothing but appreciation about the former Supermen and the kindness they showed him.

There’s been some talk about why Superman & Lois ended. Rumors say it might’ve had something to do with James Gunn not wanting another Superman project competing with his upcoming movie. Elizabeth Tulloch, who played Lois on the show, seemed to hint at that too. But nothing’s been confirmed.

Still, Corenswet didn’t bring up any drama. If anything, he made it clear that Cavill and Hoechlin have been nothing but supportive. They passed the torch in a simple but genuine way, no instructions, no pressure, just good vibes.

As the release of Superman gets closer, it looks like Corenswet is going into it with a great attitude, knowing he has the backing of the actors who’ve already worn the cape. And that’s something fans, new and old, can appreciate.
