David Dastmalchian Wants to Play the Marvel Villain Everyone Memes About
David Dastmalchian, known for several roles in the MCU, recently shared who he would love to play if given the chance to take on a third Marvel character: Morbius.
In an interview, Dastmalchian explained that he has a particular fondness for horror and unusual characters in the Marvel universe.
“I’ve always wanted to take a crack at Morbius, the living vampire. I would love the opportunity to play Dr. Michael Morbius. Oh, my God. There’s so many great characters in the MCU, and I’ve always been a fan of the horror and the weirder characters. Anybody from the West Coast Avengers would be fun for me to get to play around with,” he said.
The actor also mentioned other possibilities, including Marvel’s version of Dracula. “I love the idea of the Marvel version of Dracula, which I always loved. I thought that any of the monster stuff, the Midnight Suns, the stuff that was part of the old Defenders, would be cool,” he added. Outside of Marvel, Dastmalchian has appeared in projects like Oppenheimer, Dune: Part One, and The Suicide Squad.
Morbius already debuted in live-action as a part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU). The film stars Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius and features Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson.
Directed by Daniel Espinosa and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the story follows Morbius and his surrogate brother Milo, who turn into living vampires after curing a rare blood disease.
Despite the buzz, the film was poorly received by critics and audiences, criticized for its writing, visual effects, and post-credits scenes, though Matt Smith’s performance was noted as a positive.
The movie also gained fame as the subject of internet memes, which even prompted a re-release in theaters that failed to perform commercially. It received five Golden Raspberry Award nominations and won Worst Actor for Leto and Worst Supporting Actress for Arjona.
