David Harbour Shares Behind-the-Scenes Stories from ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Set
David Harbour is calling Avengers: Doomsday one of the most impressive movie sets he has ever been on.
The Thunderbolts* star, who plays Red Guardian, spoke with ScreenRant at Rose City Comic Con about his experience working on the upcoming Marvel film and praised directors Joe and Anthony Russo for their unique approach to handling big ensemble casts.
Harbour described the scale of the movie as overwhelming. “I was not even convinced when we started, and this movie’s gonna be really good. They have a special sauce. I don’t even really understand, but they [the Russos] just know how to do these things,” he said.
Harbour compared the level of detail, drama, and comedy in Doomsday to other major Marvel events like Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. “There’s something about the layers in which they put the comedy and the drama and the surprises and the scale and the epicness and all that stuff. It’s incredible,” he added.
He also commented on the massive production, noting the sheer number of people and resources involved. “I’ve never been on a set like this in my life. Every one of those guys and girls has a trailer. It’s just insane to look around the room and be like, ‘Oh my god, I’m in the movie.’ It’s just enormous,” Harbour said.
Avengers: Doomsday is the fifth Avengers film and will continue the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Six. The movie brings together multiple superhero teams, including the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and the original X-Men to face Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. Other cast members include Chris Hemsworth, Florence Pugh, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Letitia Wright, and many more.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely, filming began in April at Pinewood Studios in England, with additional scenes shot in Bahrain. The movie was announced after Marvel reworked plans for previous Avengers projects, including The Kang Dynasty, with the Russos returning to direct and Downey joining as the main villain.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. Its sequel, Secret Wars, is set to arrive on December 17, 2027, continuing the epic saga of the MCU.
With such a huge cast and the Russo brothers at the helm, Avengers: Doomsday looks like it could be one of the MCU’s biggest films yet. David Harbour’s excitement shows just how ambitious the project is behind the scenes. Will it live up to expectations? I’m curious what fans think—let us know in the comments.
