Dax Shepard Faces Backlash Over Creepy Comment Tied to Sabrina Carpenter
Dax Shepard is currently facing intense scrutiny following comments he made about pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter. During a recent episode of his popular podcast, Armchair Expert, Shepard sat down with Saturday Night Live star Marcello Hernandez. The conversation took a turn that many listeners described as uncomfortable when Shepard began discussing his new fascination with the 26-year-old singer.
Shepard, who has been married to actress Kristen Bell since 2013, admitted that he has become newly obsessed with the Espresso artist. He credited his young daughters for introducing him to her music. However, the actor went a step further by encouraging Hernandez to pursue a romantic relationship with the singer.
The podcast host told the 28-year-old comedian that if he were his age again, he would try to date her with all my might. He then directly questioned Hernandez, asking, Are you not trying your hardest to marry her? The exchange left many fans questioning why Shepard was pushing a dating narrative onto his guest.
Hernandez did not entertain the suggestion, quickly shutting down the idea by confirming his commitment to his current girlfriend. He informed Shepard that he is already in a relationship with a Dominican woman who is an architect and a Yale graduate. She’s unreal, the SNL star added, making it clear that his romantic interests lay elsewhere.
Despite the clear boundary, Hernandez was gracious when speaking about his professional relationship with Carpenter. He noted that they have worked together several times on Saturday Night Live, describing her as someone who is down to clown and genuinely funny. He characterized the singer as a great actress and a cool person to be around.
The backlash from the public was swift and unforgiving. Social media users labeled Shepard’s behavior as creepy and weird, pointing out the significant age gap and the fact that both parties involved were already in established relationships. One critic even suggested that it was time to unplug that weirdo’s mic.
This is not the first time Shepard has found himself in hot water over his parenting and personal life comments. Earlier this year, he was criticized for mentioning that he offered to pay for his 11-year-old daughter, Delta, to freeze her eggs in the future. He claimed he wanted to be supportive after she expressed an interest in becoming a mother later in life.
Additionally, his wife, Kristen Bell, recently faced her own wave of criticism for an anniversary post. She shared a quote from Shepard where he jokingly told her he was heavily incentivized to kill her, but never would. The post was condemned by domestic violence advocates as being extremely tone-deaf and insensitive.
Outside of the recent controversy, Dax Shepard remains a prominent figure in the entertainment industry. He continues to host Armchair Expert, which recently received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Podcast. He also recently voiced characters in the stop-motion series Ultra City Smiths alongside Bell.
What do you think about Dax’s comments, was it just a joke gone wrong, or was it genuinely over the line? Share your thoughts in the comments.
