A first look at Lanterns has finally arrived, giving fans a glimpse at one of DC Studios’ most anticipated new shows. The upcoming series brings Green Lantern heroes Hal Jordan and John Stewart back into the spotlight, this time in a grounded mystery set on Earth. The teaser, released through DC Studios and HBO, highlights the darker tone the show is aiming for. The real trailer is set to drop later today.

The series is being developed by HBO in partnership with DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television. It marks the third official show in the new DC Universe and follows Jordan and Stewart as they work together on a murder case that begins in rural Nebraska and soon leads to far more unsettling discoveries.

The project is led by Chris Mundy, who serves as showrunner, with Damon Lindelof and Tom King also helping shape the story.

Kyle Chandler plays Hal Jordan, while Aaron Pierre steps into the role of John Stewart. They’re joined by Kelly Macdonald and Nathan Fillion in supporting roles. Filming wrapped earlier this year after several months of production in Los Angeles. A number of directors worked on the series, including James Hawes, who handled the opening episodes.

The show has been in development for years. A Green Lantern series was first explored back in 2019, but major changes were made after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios in 2022. The creative team adopted a detective-driven approach inspired by modern crime dramas, which helped reshape the direction of the project before HBO officially ordered the series in 2024.

When it premieres in mid-2026, Lanterns will debut with eight episodes as part of the DCU’s first chapter, titled “Gods and Monsters.” It aims to combine the lore of the Green Lantern Corps with a more grounded investigation story, introducing the two heroes in a style DC hasn’t tried before.
