DC Studios Brings the Daily Planet to Life with New Instagram Newsletter With Articles Written By Lois Lane and Clark Kent

DC Studios just gave fans something fun and unexpected. They’ve launched a new version of the Daily Planet, and this time, it’s happening through Instagram.

A post from the official DC Studios account teased the launch with a short and dramatic message. It read, “Who leaked this to the press? Something massive is headed to Metropolis, and there’s only one source you can depend on. Stay vigilant, and subscribe to the Daily Planet.” That post included a link for fans to sign up for a newsletter.

When you click the link, it opens a welcome letter written in character by Perry White, who will be played by Wendell Pierce in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie. In the letter, Perry addresses the people of Metropolis directly.

He says, “People of Metropolis, welcome to the Daily Planet. My staff and I are dedicated to providing you with concise and accurate reporting in a city awash with misinformation and sensationalism. In a world where dogs can fly and men have heat vision, our greatest strength is providing reliable journalism that informs and serves the public. Buckle up and enjoy, readers.”

The launch of this newsletter is more than just a marketing trick. It’s part of how DC Studios is building excitement for its new universe, especially with the first big film, Superman, on the way. The idea is to bring fans closer into the world of Metropolis and its characters, starting with the Daily Planet, one of the most iconic fictional newspapers in comics.

Over the last couple of days, several new posts have resurfaced, for example, this “origin” article about Superman written by Clark Kent himself.

And this article titled “Superman: Friend or Foe” that’s also available in Spanish, written by Lois Lane:

This is a brilliant piece of marketing to promote the movie. It adds to the sense of immersion and gives us a hint at the kind of themes we might see in the film. Especially with Lois’s article—based on what we’ve seen in the trailers (and heard through rumors), it looks like the general public will turn against Superman. That makes it even more interesting to see how the idea of propaganda and media influence will play out in the story.
