DCU Fans Get First Look at Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen in the Upcoming ‘Clayface’ Movie
Fans finally have their first look at Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen in the upcoming DC film Clayface, thanks to recent set leaks.
The images show Harries partially transformed into the clay-based villain, offering a glimpse of the darker, body horror-inspired approach the film is taking. Photos were shared online by DC Film News on X, and you can check them out on this link.
Clayface is set to be the third movie in the DC Universe (DCU). It is directed by James Watkins, with a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. Harries stars as Clayface, and Naomi Ackie plays a scientist who helps him after a gangster disfigures his face.
The story centers on an actor who turns to Ackie’s character for help, leading to a dramatic transformation.
The film is produced by DC Studios’ James Gunn and Peter Safran, along with Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris. Mike Flanagan originally pitched the idea for a Clayface horror film to DC Films in March 2023.
The project was officially approved by DC Studios in December 2024. Flanagan could not direct due to scheduling conflicts, so Watkins took the director’s chair in February 2025. Amini began rewriting the script in May, and Harries was cast in June. Additional casting continued in the following months.
Filming started on August 31, 2025, in Liverpool, England, under the working title Corinthians. Location shoots have included Derby Square and the former Merseyside Police headquarters, where Gotham-themed vehicles are being stored.
Scenes set in Gotham Hospital were filmed at the Law Courts building. Soundstage production is taking place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden. Rob Hardy, who worked on the DCU film Supergirl (2026), is handling cinematography.
Clayface is scheduled for release in the United States on September 11, 2026, as part of DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The film promises a fresh and darker take on the iconic villain, with Harries’ transformation central to the story.
