Released over a week ago, Deadpool & Wolverine benefited from a robust marketing campaign highlighting cameos, humor, and gags, leading many to anticipate it would be a significant financial success for Disney and Marvel Studios after several years of underwhelming performances.

While it’s too soon to determine if it will be the most profitable Disney film of the year, as it still needs to surpass Inside Out 2 and is still in theaters, the film has already broken several major records.

By Friday, Deadpool & Wolverine was expected to surpass $300 million in North America, exceeding the lifetime domestic earnings of Deadpool 2 ($318.5 million). With Deadpool earning $363.1 million domestically and $782.6 million globally, and Deadpool 2 totaling $734.5 million worldwide, the new film is set to surpass the combined lifetime earnings of the previous two films in both domestic and global markets within just two weeks. The worldwide total is projected to reach between $785 million and $800 million by Sunday, making it the third highest-grossing R-rated film worldwide. Joker currently holds the top spot at $1.064 billion, with Deadpool & Wolverine expected to eventually challenge it, potentially reaching around $1.2 billion.

Deadpool & Wolverine currently holds the record for the largest R-rated opening of all time, both domestically and globally, surpassing the previous two franchise installments with $211.4 million. It also boasts the sixth-largest domestic opening of any film and the fourth-largest superhero opening of all time.

  1. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ — $355.1 million
  2. ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ — $355.1 million
  3. ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ — $257.7 million
  4. ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ — $248 million
  5. ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ — $220 million
  6. ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ — $211.4 million

The film also set the record for the biggest July opening of all time domestically and has now exceeded the $619 million earned by Hugh Jackman’s standalone Logan in 2017.
