Descendants Franchise Reportedly Gears Up For A Brand New Hidden Heroes Chapter
The ‘Descendants’ universe has never really slowed down since Disney turned four villain kids into a musical phenomenon back in 2015. What began as a single Disney Channel movie has spiraled into a sprawling franchise spanning films, animated shorts, and now a steady stream of Disney+ originals. Following the success of the original trilogy, two sequels arrived within the following four years, along with television shorts, novels, and soundtracks tied to the world of Auradon.
That expansion accelerated even further with 2024’s ‘Descendants, The Rise of Red,’ which served as a spin-off of the first three films directed by Jennifer Phang and debuted on Disney Plus on July 12, 2024. Just this past week, the franchise’s newest installment, ‘Descendants, Wicked Wonderland,’ arrived on Disney Channel on July 16, 2026, and hit Disney Plus the following day, continuing the story of Red and Chloe as they team up with new allies to stop a villain named Maddox Hatter.
Now, before fans have even finished digesting that latest chapter, word is spreading of yet another project in the pipeline. According to entertainment account Popped, a new spin-off titled ‘Descendants, Hidden Heroes’ is reportedly in development for Disney Plus, with filming said to begin on August 10 in Vancouver and director Jude Weng reportedly attached to the project, citing tracking account @descendantstrr as the source of the tip.
That Vancouver detail tracks closely with how this franchise has always operated behind the scenes. The original trilogy and its more recent follow-up films have consistently filmed in the same British Columbia region, with locations like Hatley Castle helping give the series its recognizable fairy tale meets modern teen drama look across multiple entries. Wicked Wonderland itself began filming in Vancouver in March 2025 before wrapping in time for the Descendants and Zombies Worlds Collide Tour.
If the reports hold up, Jude Weng would be stepping into a franchise with a genuinely stacked resume behind her. Weng’s episode of Party Down was selected as a Perfect Episode by Vanity Fair, and Rolling Stone named her Lucky Hank episode a Top 10 Best Episode of Television in 2023, with additional recent credits on Twisted Metal, Ghosts, Frasier, The Summer I Turned Pretty, and Matlock. She would bring that broadcast and streaming pedigree to a franchise that has increasingly leaned on Disney Plus as its primary home.
Details beyond the working title remain scarce for now, and much of the chatter appears to be coming from fan tracking accounts monitoring industry paperwork. Some online discussion has pointed to a SAG-AFTRA signatory connection tying the project to the same production team behind Wicked Wonderland, which also shares ties to other Disney musical properties like the Zombies series. That overlap has already sparked debate among fans over whether ‘Hidden Heroes’ represents a true continuation of the mainline story or a spinoff built around entirely new characters.
