DeWanda Wise Reveals the One X-Men Character She’s Been Manifesting for Years

Marvel Studios has been steadily rebuilding its mutant corner of the MCU, with pieces of the X-Men mythology already trickling into the timeline through unexpected cameos. Characters like Professor X, Beast, and Pyro have all popped up in recent projects, though they arrived as variants rather than native additions to the main universe. Fans have spent the past year treating every casting rumor as a clue toward the real thing, a proper X-Men reboot built from the ground up.

Storm has become one of the most fought over roles in that speculation. Halle Berry originated the character across four films for Fox, while Alexandra Shipp later played a younger version of Ororo Munroe in ‘X-Men Apocalypse’ and ‘Dark Phoenix.’ More recently, names like Cynthia Erivo and Ayo Edebiri have circulated as potential contenders for the part, with insider accounts claiming Marvel is actively weighing its options.

Sitting right at the center of that conversation is ‘Jurassic World Dominion’ breakout DeWanda Wise, and she has made her feelings about the role about as clear as they can get. In resurfaced comments that have started making the rounds again online, Wise says Storm is not just a fun fan cast for her, it is the only Marvel character she has ever wanted to play. The quote, first shared by outlet CoveredGeekly, reignited the casting conversation practically overnight, racking up hundreds of thousands of views within hours.

Fan reaction to the resurfaced comments has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic, with many pointing out that Wise already has the presence and screen command to pull off the weather manipulating mutant. Her name has circulated in fan casting circles for years now, and this latest wave of attention only seems to be adding fuel to that fire.

This is not exactly new territory for Wise either. Back in 2018, she posted on Instagram that she would love to play Storm, even joking that fans should feel free to spam Marvel’s social accounts on her behalf. Her connection to the MCU almost happened once before, when she was cast as Maria Rambeau in 2019’s ‘Captain Marvel’ before scheduling conflicts with ‘She’s Gotta Have It’ forced her to exit, with Lashana Lynch ultimately stepping into the part.

The timing of this renewed interest lines up with growing signs that Marvel is finally ready to bring mutants fully into the fold. ‘Black Panther Wakanda Forever’ producer Nate Moore has already teased a future Storm appearance, and the character also returned to screens through the animated continuation ‘X-Men 97’ on Disney Plus. Even Denzel Washington has been floated as a potential villain for the eventual reboot, a sign of just how seriously Marvel appears to be building out its next mutant era.

Wise clearly has the passion and, according to fans, the look to make it happen. Whether Marvel actually comes calling is still anyone’s guess, but for now the internet seems ready to campaign on her behalf. Would you want to see DeWanda Wise command the lightning as Storm, or should Marvel look elsewhere for its next Ororo Munroe?
