Diane Keaton’s Family Reveals Cause of Death of Oscar-Winning Star
Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton has died, and her family has confirmed that pneumonia was the cause. The actress passed away on Saturday, October 11, in Los Angeles.
Paramedics were called to her home and transported her to a nearby hospital.
In a statement shared with People magazine, Keaton’s family expressed their gratitude for the support they have received from fans. “The Keaton family are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11,” the statement read.
The family also suggested ways to honor Keaton’s memory. “She loved her animals and she was steadfast in her support of the unhoused community, so any donations in her memory to a local food bank or an animal shelter would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute to her,” they said.
A close friend told People that Keaton’s health had “declined very suddenly” over the past few months, and that only her immediate family had been aware, choosing to keep the matter private.
Tributes to the actress have poured in from co-stars, friends, and fans around the world. Keaton was known not only for her remarkable acting career but also for her passion for architectural preservation and her love of animals.
To honor her legacy, AMC Theatres will rerelease her films Annie Hall and Something’s Gotta Give for a one-week run starting Friday. Keaton won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Annie Hall and was nominated for Reds, Something’s Gotta Give, and Marvin’s Room.
