James Gunn has shared a major update for Superman fans as he teases the next chapter in the DC universe.

The filmmaker previously confirmed that the upcoming movie, titled Superman: Man of Tomorrow, is scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027. David Corenswet is set to return as Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult reprising their roles.

Gunn explained that the new film will not be a direct sequel to the previous Superman movie, but Superman will play a central role. He described the project as “as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie,” suggesting that Superman and Lex Luthor will team up to face a larger threat. Filming is expected to begin around April 2026.

Earlier today, Gunn shared an image of the second draft of the Man of Tomorrow script on social media, giving fans a first glimpse at the film’s main villain.

The cover shows an X-ray of a head with an enlarged brain, strongly hinting that Brainiac will be the antagonist in the 2027 movie. Fans have already started speculating about how this classic DC villain will challenge Superman on screen.

This follows Gunn’s earlier announcements that he had finished a script treatment for the film and described it as the next story in the “Superman Saga.” Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav confirmed that Gunn will both write and direct the upcoming installment in the “Super-Family.”

With Brainiac teased as the villain, anticipation is building for how Man of Tomorrow will expand the Superman universe. The combination of Superman and Lex facing a bigger threat promises high stakes and classic hero-versus-villain action that fans love.

Pairing Superman and Lex against a formidable villain could make this one of the most thrilling DC films yet. What do you think about Brainiac as the villain and the direction of Man of Tomorrow? Share your thoughts in the comments.
