Din Djarin Charges Into Action on AT-RT in a New Look at ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’
Fans of Star Wars have reason to celebrate as Din Djarin and Grogu are set to make their big-screen debut in The Mandalorian & Grogu. The iconic duo, who captured hearts on Disney+ over the past few years, are now bringing their adventures to theaters, marking the first Star Wars cinematic story since 2019’s Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.
Lucasfilm co-CEO Dave Filoni, who co-wrote the film and directed second-unit scenes, says this new release is very different from previous Star Wars movies.
“Episode VII was a completely different entity,” he told Empire Magazine. “We’re in a completely different era of Star Wars now. This film is a big celebration of Mando and Grogu.” Unlike the last trilogy, there’s no pressure to introduce new heroes or start a massive storyline. Instead, the film focuses on the fan-favorite pair and their journey.
When we last saw Din Djarin and Grogu at the end of Season 3, they had settled on Nevarro after defeating Moff Gideon and helping reclaim Mandalore. Pedro Pascal, who plays Mando, says the finale felt like closing a chapter but left room for more adventures. “They open up the opportunity for him to continue his best work as a bounty hunter, but just working for the good guys,” Pascal explains. “Through his relationship with Grogu, there is an expansion of his heart… that leads him to fight for what he knows is right.”

Director Jon Favreau and Filoni promise that the film will bring a mix of emotional depth and cinematic spectacle. Audiences can expect massive practical sets, extensive puppetry, and stop-motion effects from Phil Tippett’s studio. But at the heart of it all, they emphasize, are the characters themselves. Filoni says, “It’s a question of, ‘Is the audience going to believe it? Are they going to feel it?’ That comes through the characters. If the characters are connecting, then the adventure plays, the action plays, the tension plays.”
