Disney decided to cancel some major shows this summer. These decisions have left viewers shocked, with some projects ending after just one season and others suddenly disappearing from the schedule.

While each show had its own reason for being cut, the results were the same, fans were left wondering what happened and whether any of them could make a comeback.

One of the most surprising cancellations came from ABC with the medical drama Doctor Odyssey. The show, which starred Joshua Jackson, only aired for one season before it was pulled from the lineup. Jackson opened up about how he felt after hearing the news. “This is a crazy and difficult business, and whatever the reasons were for them not wanting to move forward with it, they don’t actually tell us those things,” he explained.

The actor admitted he was disappointed, adding, “I am always bummed out when a show gets canceled.” He also revealed that ABC hadn’t told him if the project might return in another form, saying, “They may make that show with somebody else. I have no idea what their plans are. They haven’t let me know, but I am not holding my breath that it’s coming back.” While the cast was released from their contracts, insiders suggested the Ryan Murphy-produced cruise ship medical drama wasn’t officially canceled at first, as producers were still considering options. Unfortunately, no revival plans have surfaced.

Another short-lived show was the Disney Channel animated series Primos. The show, which only ran for one season, was praised for its multicultural focus but also faced backlash.

Cosmic Book News reported that some viewers criticized the show’s use of incorrect Spanish, which felt inauthentic to its intended Latin audience. Despite its attempts to tell a relatable coming-of-age story, the criticism overshadowed much of the praise. Without a large enough audience or critical acclaim to counter the controversy, Primos quietly ended without much sign of returning.

The third and perhaps most unexpected cancellation was Marvel Studios: Assembled on Disney+. This docuseries first premiered in 2021 and gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at Marvel Cinematic Universe films and Disney+ shows. Each episode focused on a different project, with interviews from the cast and crew as they discussed how the MCU came together. The series began with a deep dive into WandaVision and Phase Four projects, later moving into Phase Five content.

It was reported that “no new episodes” were in development, and the last episode was released in November. This cancellation came just as Marvel’s Ironheart was getting ready to premiere, making the news even more surprising for fans who loved the inside look at Marvel productions.

For now, these three cancellations mark a significant shift in Disney’s programming. Doctor Odyssey’s sudden end, Primos’ quiet removal, and the loss of Marvel Studios: Assembled all show that even well-promoted and popular-sounding projects can meet an early end.

While it’s possible some ideas could return in new forms, there’s no guarantee. For many fans, these cuts make Disney’s summer lineup feel noticeably emptier.
