Disney+ Fans Will Soon Make Their Own AI-Powered Shorts, Says Bob Iger
Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed plans for big changes to the streaming service during the company’s 2025 earnings call.
Iger said Disney+ is seeing “the biggest and the most significant changes — from a product perspective, from a technology perspective — since we launched the service in 2019.” Part of the update will include game-like features through Disney’s partnership with Epic Games, which allows Disney characters and stories to appear on Epic’s platform.
Another major update is the addition of AI-powered short-form content. Iger explained that users will be able to create their own videos and watch content made by others. “The other thing that we’re really excited about, that AI is going to give us the ability to do, is to provide users of Disney+ with a much more engaged experience, including the ability for them to create user-generated content and to consume user generated content — mostly short-form — from others,” he said.
Iger also mentioned that Disney has talked with various AI companies and hopes to reach agreements that protect its intellectual property while allowing fans to enjoy these new features.
This move shows Disney entering the growing space of user-generated AI content. It could allow fans to interact with Disney stories in a new and creative way, rather than waiting for official releases.
